Hey everyone, Ive been looking for a more XC based bike, as my kona stinky is a bit of a pig for trail rides. I haven't weighed it, but I'd guess high 30's, up to 40lbs. I want something a bit more XC friendly.
An opportuntity has come up to pick up a 2006 RM Slayer 50 and was wondering how it would compare. From what I've read, the 06's were still pretty beefy and were more AM oriented. Would this be a better XC bike then my stinky?
I'm moving to calgary this august, and next spring plan on buying a more DH oriented bike for resort riding, so this would be strictly my XC/in town bike. I wouldn't mind throwing a bit of cash at it for better, light lighter weight parts.
Yes, the Slayer will pedal ok for XC, not as good as the SXC but better than the Kona.
I have ( well my 16yr son inherited it when I went Knolly ) an 06 50 with the RP3 Pushed. Have dropped to a double ring and it gets ridden XC weekly as we live in Flat-ario and anything looking like a hill is a couple of hours away. As long as the trails are not super tight you should be ok. It is a fun bike that begs for the rougher line.
ya I wind up buying it, got a good deal and figured it would be the perfect bike to ride when something isnt big enough for my stinky. I've had it out twice and its awesome, pedals way better on trails then my stinky. The rear linkage squeaks a little, I may take it in to get the rushings greased/replaced. Love the bike though, very capable, I'll probably use it gor everything except chair lift resort rides.
Own a 2006 Slayer it definitely not an XC bike more of a heavy AM/light free-ride kind of bike, peddles well enough but it's just to beefy to feel at all xc like
