Ok new rear XT M772 derailleur, new XT chain, newish cables, cassette good condition. Couple of questions...

1) What would cause the shifter to skip over 2 different gears at both ends of the shifting range?
2) Are Shimano derailleurs and SRAM shifters compatible with each other?

The frame had XT derailleurs on it, I had SRAM trigger shifters on my old bike. Front runs throught the gears fine and shifts fine. Rear goes from 1 to 2 then when I click one time it jumps to 4 then 5, 6, 7 and then skips up to 9 with only one click. Comes back down doing the same thing. There isn't a TS guide on the Shimano site. Thank you for any help in advance and please don't kill me I'm a budget rider. LOL

From my understanding sram is a 1:1 ratio and shimano is a 2:1 ratio depending on the sram shifter model

I found that on the both site, but that would mean the distanced traveled on the trigger would be less to change gears with the XT shifter. This shouldn't affect the mechanical portion of the rear derailleur? That wouldn't explain the jumping of gears, it would mean it wouldn't shift if the ration came into play?

I got my answer, thanks for your help.

X9 and XT pivot at different points causing the 2:1 shift movement. Which is not compatible with my SRAM shifter. LOL Oh well I'm sure I can sell it.
