Does anyone have any recommendations for a bike that would be a good for a beginner in DJ/Street/4x for under $1300. i'll be looking to buy near the end of the summer (when I have money) and I was thinking of trying a mongoose fireball (low end), Airborne wingman (midrange), or an NS Core (high end). Its either that or buying used from pinkbike or one of the Camp of champions DJ demos. Any suggestions?
I' would prefer front suspension because i want to try 4x, but im open to run SS or gears.
If you run SS i would recommend for your price range you build up your own bike (if you have an idea of what type of parts you want, if not talk to your LBS). If you want to run gears, sets can be expensive (derailleurs, casssete, shifters etc..) so i would PERSONALLY lean towards buying complete. but its up to you.

The Wingman is a brand-new bike for us. Being here in Dayton, OH, we did most of the testing on it last winter at Ray's indoor park in Cleveland, which is a couple hours north of us.
We designed the Wingman either for the entry-level rider who wants to try the sport for the first time, or the more experienced rider who is not primarily a jump guy, but wants a reliable, relatively inexpensive bike to add to the quiver (or even the experienced 20" rider who wants to play in the 26" sandbox from time to time).
There are some video reviews from Sea Otter and from our own Flight Crew guys on the Airborne website (scroll down to get to the Reviews tab). See what you think!

you'll probably want something with either a short back end or a slightly higher bottom bracket--both of those aspects make the front end of a bike pull up quicker. i personally feel like manuals work better as well when you have the ratio of a long front end to short back end. so i ride the longest size (22.5"tt) Blackmarket MOB and i manual great on it.
then, if you really want responsive manuals, you may also consider a 24"-wheel specific mtbmx bike. this Union Street Molly Maguire, for example. shorter riders especially seem to prefer 24"s for street, but tall guys ride them too:
i lock in to manuals great on my Blackmarket MOB (22.5"top tube, the longest one). here it is: Unsecure image, only https images allowed: http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh138/upsetbmx/100_0295.jpg
