If it doesn't have to be new, definitely Specialized Demo.

Maybe wait until 2012 the new Kona operator looks promising and is usually under 3k. http://cog.konaworld.com/archives/7980

kona operator
get a new operator. a new bike comes with warranty and all that jazz. As much as i dont like kona, they came up with a steller price point on the operator.

If you have a local kona dealer USE THEM I bouhUghtnmy Kona online and when my forks broke I had a horrible time when my forks broke.they were 2010 boxers and apparently a lot of the boxers made then had a rebound problem.I had to send my forks all the way back to where I got and it took 2/3 weeks.so buy from a local dealer

I really like my Session 8, really fast out of the box, jumps well, corners well. If you can't get the 88 the 8 isn't that far off. I'd really recommend it to anyone looking for a bike in that price range.
