Used to ride all the time, been out of it for 5-6 years. Transitioned from BMX to XC, to 'hardcore' XC to DH, then had a nice XC street/DJ bike getting me back into BMX style again.....then I had 2 kids, got fat and out of shape. Always missed riding, but never had the time to go until now.

Looking for some advice on a bike.

Not sure how dedicated I am going to be getting back into things. I will be starting with some light XC riding, but it will be agressive. Not sure if I should be buying used or new? and the golden question of what bike to get, so hoping to get some feedback. I used to be pretty hard on my junk, always breaking things, so I am reluctant to buy cheap things. I guess my budget is up to 2k. I am about 220lbs 6'1" (used to be a 19" frame). Never liked the full suspension for both street and XC, so looking for a hard tail.

Have my eyes on a 2010 Norco Torrent, but I am worried about breaking it.

I'm 6'5", 225 lbs, and I have a talent for casing jumps. I feel you on breaking stuff, haha. You might want to look into the Transition TransAM: http://www.transitionbikes.com/Bikes_TransAM.cfm

Its a steel frame hardtail designed for aggressive, all mountain riding. The geo is a little slacker and more DH friendly, it fits a large fork for an HT, and it can take much more big guy punishment than an XC bike. The large has a 19.5" seat tube. Even coming from a BMX background, you'd have a hard time breaking this bike. But it does cost $2500 complete.

New or used it a tough question. I guess it depends on what deals you can find. If a shop has a good sale, or there's a sick used bike in your area, go for it. If not you may just have to pay MSRP for a new bike to get what you're looking for.

And if you can find some good riding buddies you will defiantly get back into it and stay into it. You can't quit riding if your mates are always calling you up to shred!
