"To represtent... the beautiful and the sublime in nature... demands qualities alike of head and heart, in rapt accordance with the infinite creative spirit."

The photographer’s problem, therefore, is to see clearly the limitations and at the same time the potential qualities of his medium, for it is precisely here that honesty, no less than intensity of vision, is the prerequisite of a living expression. This means a real respect for the thing in front of him. - Paul Strand

Pepper No. 30, 1930

...the pepper is beginning to show signs of strain, and tonight should grace a salad. It has been suggested that I am a cannibal to eat my models. (referring to his famous photo "Pepper #30") - Edward Weston

Really liking this picture.

Can't seem to embed, so hotlink it is.

Pile of shoes, bottle of Jim Beam, how the legs sit, with the distant/pout look.

Henri Cartier-Bresson

“For me, the camera is a sketch book, an instrument of intuition and spontaneity.”

“To take photographs means to recognize - simultaneously and within a fraction of a second - both the fact itself and the rigorous organization of visually perceived forms that give it meaning. It is putting one's head, one's eye and one's heart on the same axis.”

Daido Moriyama

“For me, photography is not a means by which to create beautiful art, but a unique way of encountering genuine reality”

“Most of what I want simply slips away like water flowing through a net, and always what remains are only vague, elusive fragments of images… that sink into countless strata in my mind.”

Michael Kenna

“Perhaps most intriguing of all is that it is possible to photograph what is impossible for the human eye to see - cumulative time.”

“Getting photographs is not the most important thing. For me it’s the act of photographing. It’s enlightening, therapeutic and satisfying, because the very process forces me to connect with the world. When you make four-hour exposures in the middle of the night, you inevitably slow down and begin to observe and appreciate more what’s going on around you. In our fast-paced, modern world, it’s a luxury to be able to watch the stars move across the sky.”

Another photographer similar to Michael Kenna, Josef Hoflehner. He's got quite a few similar to Kenna's shots actually.

This is the single most perfect quote to summarize my thoughts on why I got into photography. Absolutely perfectly wored.

Agreed, I love to find quotes like that. It's almost like something that you already know but haven't been able to fully grasp, then there it is!

Fluorescentblack, that's some great stuff! I hadn't heard of him before.

Exactly. It's like you know what you think about something, but don't know how to phrase it, and then you see a quote where it;s worded perfectly and you're like YES FINALLY.
