Didn't know they were a thing until my LBS had one on the floor. Almost no launch for it, I still can't even find it on the website. Looks awesome, How does it ride?
My best buddy got into bikes last year and the Status was the bike I recommended to him. He managed to pick one up for for a great price and it has proven to be really durable and forgiving of mistakes. The spec is awesome for the money too.
The market launch was kinda shitty. I think the launch was dual purpose - both a marketing stunt and also genuinely a way to save money. They did no pre-launch or press release, didn't distribute much information about it and didn't sell them online. I think the purpose of that was to create a buzz with word of mouth about this bike and make people go to shops to ask about it. Spending absolutely zero money on marketing will in theory save $$$ which they can pass onto the consumer.
Unfortunately that launch stunt came at the cost of most people being able to find the information they needed about the bike, but oh well.
So I'm doing the custom fork decals and also going back to my favorite brakes. The XTRs work good, and have plenty of stopping power, I'm just not liking the lever feel and spongy modulation. I've bled them twice, and they're adequate, but I just prefer the overall feeling of the Hopes. Plus, what brake company gives you THREE sets of pads, including hardware and hose fittings!
I feel you went in the opposite direction of me here haha, I’ve just finished up changing the spec a wee bit on my Moxie, went from Orange custom Lyrik decals to some nice silver ones, then I went from Hope brakes to Shimanos. I don’t know what it was but there was always something about the Hopes I never got on with, I tried both V4 and E4’s and didn’t particularly like either. Tried bleeding them multiple times and throwing pads at them whenever they needed it, tried fiddling around with the positioning of the levers/BPC to get them feeling good for me and I just couldn’t. Shame because they are actually decent brakes I just couldn’t get them to work right for me.

I remember seeing a bunch of Status stuff floating around online either just before or after the bike released, but I don’t recall there being much(if any) reference to it being a Specialised on those ads, so it was more one of those “if you know, you know” kinda things.
I’ve tried just about every brake, and I keep coming back to Hopes.
Maguras?
I was thinking I might go for the MT7 next time I buy brakes. Probably to replace a set of G2 that are very “ok.”
I’m 4 years on a set. I might be the luckiest person ever but I’ve only had one issue that I caused and had to get a new lever body because I stripped it. All on me because I am a ham fist. I love my Mt7 brakes though. Just gobs of power, which is a good thing at my weight (275ish). I may up the rotor to 220/223 next in the front.
