Anybody try an air shock (Fox X2) on the 2018-2019 Gambler linkage?

I hope it works better than the previous linkage. My X2 blows through the travel even with compression maxed out and max volume spacers. Obviously I can't ride with it full closed so I just put up with it. Really considering adding more spacers and removing the limiter but the suspension shop gave me shit last time lol

I’ll report back after some bike park laps this weekend!

Hi All,

Just a quick update on the Build of my Custom Gambler :

Bike Finished and running awesome. The Head Angle is around 62º.
Not a big of a deal, but i will install a +7mm reach Headset just to try to create more room for my big Legs.

The 29 Wheel upfront is quite the change for DH Pace and chunky Trails. Very Good !!

The Fox 40 Float with the Ohlins Cartridge changed quite a bit . ( For the good ) The performance upgrade was enormous comparing to the stock Fox 40 Performance Cartridge.

The Ohlins TTX in the back needs a firmer Spring, i will maybe go from the 411 to a 457. Just to compensate the HeadAngle and for better perfomance pedalling.

Current stats on the Bike :

Frame : Scott Gambler 2016, with Update 2018 Links + Enduro Bearings MAX Allaround.
Headset CaneCreek 40 Series
Fork : Fox 40 Float With FGFX Ohlins Cartridge
Shock : Ohlins TTX 22M - 240mm 411nm Spring
Hubs: DT Swiss 350 Hubs with ratchet 54 Upgrade in the Back ( 20x110 Boost Front / 150x12 back)
Spokes : DT Swiss Competition ( ProLock Al Nipples in the Front , Pro Lock Brass in the Back )
Rims : DT Swiss EX471 Front 28 Holes / DT Swiss HX491 Back 32 Holes
Transmission : Sram X01 7 Speed / Shimano Saint Crankset 170mm + Renthal 1XR Ring 34T
Brakes : Zee Caliper + SLX Levers
Cockpit : Renthal Integra II Stem 10Rise 31.8 50mm Length + Renthal Fatbar 31.8 780mm
Seat + Post : SDG Race Face Atlas
Tyres : Maxxis DHF 2.5 DH 27,5" + Maxxis Assegai 2.5 DH 3C 29" ( Awesome TYRE !!! )
Foam Insert in the Back from Portuguese Brand Elementar Cycles

Reporting back on the X2 air shock on the 2018. Have 3 park days on it and still dialing but it feels pretty fun. I’m actually having trouble bottoming it out... started with max 4 spacers, came down to 2, then even just 1. 1 seemed a little too soft so back to 2.
I’m about 175 with all my gear on and ride rather aggressively for the average Joe rider. The very end of the 2018 linkage does seem to ramp up and might truly be better suited for a coil. Going to switch back to compare this weekend.

On the topic of coil, mine came with a 500 x 3” which feels too stiff for me at 175 geared up. For other riders on the 2018/2019 linkage, what spring rate are you running and how much do you weigh? Do you have it setup for plowing DH or more for big jumps?

I am running a coil 400lb.
My weight is 163lb. Setup for plowing atm.

Wow big difference from mine. running my compression on the firmer side with max volume spacers and I'm still bottoming out on the smallest hits. can't go firmer or else it's way too harsh on chatter and rock gardens

The 2018 frame is supposedly much more progressive, guessing that has a lot to do with it.

Different shock length as well. I've had this thing for 4 years, gonna keep it as is until new bike. Considering the new gambler and trying mullet

I have a 2016 scott gambler 710 that needs new frame bearings. I have taken it apart and found the name of the main pivot bearings and the rest of the bearings. I searched up tpx 6902 and I found a pack of 8 on ebay for $21 (https://www.ebay.com/itm/6902-Bearing-6902-2RS-Bearing-ABEC-5-15x28x7mm-Ball-Bearing-6902-Bearing-4-pcs/251494575291?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908105057%26meid%3D8f905e36049f4834b89eda8dcfd46bc3%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D15%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D251494575291%26itm%3D251494575291%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2380057%26brand%3DACER+Racing&_trksid=p2380057.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3Ac8b0c57f-f17f-11ea-a8e7-f2179c98068c%7Cparentrq%3A6baa86961740a0f11d3b5ae3ffffe028%7Ciid%3A1). I also found the enduro max 6902 for $8 a bearing (https://www.worldwidecyclery.com/products/abi-6902-sealed-cartridge-bearing). Im wondering if the enduro max bearings will fit. Also I cant seem to find the enduro max 8605. If anyone can hep me out that would be great.
