Hey, soon I'm gonna be getting my first motorbike (March) and I'm new to the "industry". I know I need to buy a good jacket, but I don't know what a "good jacket" is. Some recomendations? Thanks Smile

First of all congrats on geting your first motorbike. Smile

The truth is that it's difficult to find a motorcycle jacket you can use all year round. A good place to start is a long cordura jacket. If you can aford it, Dainese's GoreTex line is superb. I have used it from daily commuting to a trip that covered half of europe. I know a long cordura jacket loses a bit on the bling factor compared to leather or shorter cordura jackets but in my experience it's the most practical. I'd also advice you buy a back protector to fit to your jacket. Most jackets come without back protectors and some come with litle foam pads. Make sure you get a CE certified back protector for your jacket.

Leather jackets look great and they proitect a bit beter as leather is more resistant to abrassion but they're uncomfortable when it gets really hot or cold plus they're not waterproof (to be acurate lately you can find waterproof leathers but they're very expensive).

To sum it up my advice would be to go for a long cordura jacket and if you can affort it you can buy a short vented cordura jacket for the summer. If you buy the same make of jackets you could use the same back protector on both saving you some money in the process.

If you could tell me a b it more about what bike you'll buy and how's the weather where you live maybe I could help you some more.

Well I'll be getting a 125cc Super-moto, I dno about the actual brand yet, cos I'm buying second hand. I'll be living in the East-Midlands of england, doing mostly 25-30 mins commutes.

Since you'll be in England you'll probably need a jacket that's warm and waterproof. I lived for a year in London and as I'm from Greece I found the weather quite cold and humid without it being too cold to commute.

A detachable thermal lining would be a nice feature as you can remove it for the warmer months. As I mentioned before Dainese makes great jackets but they tend to be expensive and I don't know if you'd be willing to spend 300 - 400 pounds on a jacket. You can search for last year's models which usually carry a good discount but it's still a gamble since you can't be sure what sizes will be in stock etc. Also you can find good value for money jackets from Hein Gericke. I'll post a few links here and you can check for yourself:

Long jacket with removable thermal lining: http://www.hein-gericke.co.uk/clothing/motorcyle-clothing/jackets/bullson-travel-sheltexr-jacke-schwarz.html
Long touring jacket: http://www.hein-gericke.co.uk/clothing/motorcyle-clothing/jackets/bullson-boost-sheltexr-jacke-schwarz.html
CE back protector: http://www.hein-gericke.co.uk/clothing/protection/back-protectors/hein-gericke-hiprotecr-backshock-air-ruckenprotektor.html

Keep in mind that you'll also need some waterproofs and shoe covers for rainy days:

Whatever you do don't ommite the CE back protector. 20 quid VS a broken back is a no-brainer.

Here I am giving you some tips regarding "how to purchase Bike Riding Jacket" online.

1. Always check your jacket is weatherproof or not. When you go for riding a bike, for sure you don't even care about weather conditions.

2. Do prefer ZIP installed jackets which are easy to wear and take-off.

3. Check whether cooling is delivering properly or not throughout the jacket.

4. Always prefer High Note Performance while purchasing bike riding jacket online.
