DH Shoe? (not clipless)

I'm going to start racing DH this season, and want to be as competitive as possible.
I run clipless on both XC and my road bike, but I don't want to so much on the DH. What I want to know is if there is a flat soul shoe that anyone recommends for this type of use, and why? I.E. rigid soul, high top, good laces, all that sort of good stuff.

Any advice would be awesome.. Thanks guys!

510's definitely get my vote due to their super sticky stealth rubber, and the fact they are tough as hell! But shimano DX work pretty well too.

If you can get your hands on someones clipless pedals to try I'd recommend giving it a few tries! I thought it was an absurd idea until I tried it. It's really just sweet not having to think about your foot positioning and as you know if you use them for xc when you do eat it they end up coming off anyway. I still prefer flats for goofing around on jumps and stuff, but for racing I like clipless way more than I thought I would.

Sorry no valuable contribution here, I rock some oldschool nike jordan basketball shoes that have super grippy soles, but the soles are pretty soft so they're not the best. And my toes get CRUSHED sometimes.

Five ten baron

If you need a reason, just look at what pro riders are wearing, In dh by and large it's either five ten or shimano dx.

Yeah, it must be a real drag having to pull on a pair of the sweetest DH shoes around, made by what most people on here agree are the best company and not have to pay for them?

dont have to get all sarcastic. i too agree they are the best! Pimp if you look earlier to my first post but you cant look at what top riders are wearing and think that, thats what they would be wanting to wear.

five tens are the answer ....
...and you will feel more "clipped in" than with clipless pedals ...

not up and down you wont Big Grin just made the leap to clipless from years on five tens. OMG its insane.

this

had impacts, didn't appreciate the high top, super thick sole, and the fact there was so much grip you have to lift your foot to make any adjustment

got some barons, not quite as stiff but so much more ankle mobility and the perfect amount of grip IMO, love them for AM and DH. also really love the laces, super strong and very functional

overall can't go wrong with 5.10 and flats

I really want to try clipless on my DH bike, but when I think about hiking in my clipless shoes I cringe, maybe I'll try it on a shuttle day
