how do companies make different spring weights? As in how is a 300lb spring made different from a 450lb

A 350 LB/in will require 350 lbs to compress the spring 1", 700 lb to compress it 2", 1050 lb to compress it 3" etc. A 450 lb/in spring will require 140 lb to compress it the first inch, 900 lb to compress it the second inch and so forth.

More wraps: Less stiff
Thinner wire: Less stiff
Fewer wraps: More stiff
Thicker wire: More stiff

Didn't know this! I've always liked the look of springs with fewer wraps. I guess I'll never own one, I ride a 350 lol.

Fewer wraps being more stiff is not always true. I own a ti coil (about a 300#) that is way too soft for my 215 pound body to use that has about only half of the wraps as my 400# ti coil that I use on my bike.

You can but its not a good idea. Id recommend a new set of dt swiss champ or comp spokes.

Haha, sick. The price is a little speed though. I would only pay like 20-30 for it

It's the 2014 Scott gambler for 1900 bucks but would it compromise the bike

I would avoid for sure. It also may void the warranty if it breaks as it was caused by the rider, not the manufacturer.

so i have 9.5 x 3.0 rc4 shox. i'm thinking about shred some weight.
my pal gave me 2.75 SLS Fox spring. Is it bad to put 2.75 spring to 3.0 shox? (my frame is devinci wilson xp 2015)

spring is less then 0.3" shorter than regular 3.0 spring (actual length)

Way too short. You need to run a 3.25 spring. That's what I have on my rc4. Plus you're not saving any noticeable weight.

How much of a difference would it make going from 21mm rims to 26mm wide? Right now I have DT Swiss ex500 and even at 25 psi they are still rock hard. Thinking wider rims might make the ride/grip better. Found a set of brand new mtx 33 wheels for $150.
