We need a Kona Abra Cadabra thread here. All model year (MY) owners are welcome. Cadabra's too.

I just received my 2012 Abra Cadabra. I'm really looking forward to trying it out in earnest. I like the light weight. Excellent news, the bike came upgraded to with the G3 magic link with air shock! Big Grin .

All 2012 Abra Cadabra's are supposedly being shipped this way. Upgraded bushings with it, etc. The Kona website 2012 bike pics don't show this update yet. It's hot off the press.

Any pics? Not that it would save much weight but I'd love to try out a tiny air shock on my Coilair. Very interesting!

Edit: Just found a write up on PinkBike on that thing.

I asked my local Kona dealer about that Magic Link air shock and they told me it's coming out on all the 2013 models. They might have the shock available for ordering some time in the fall/winter when 2013 bikes become available. But as for you, you got hooked up! So lucky!

Thx! It's nice to talk to a fellow enthusiast. Not many people I hang out with are into MBing.

Nothing new to report yet. Totally terrible weather, and probably through the weekend too. Warm up dammit...

They are obviously progressing from the 2010 Cadabra I have. I want a new one. How is it to ride?

Lot's of updates if you into the technical details, such as new scandium. I love riding it and am getting more seat time. Responsive yet controlled.

I put a Rockshox reverb seatpost on it last weekend.

I just got back the Rockies with the bike for the first time. I'm really happy with it.

Here's a pic of it.

For the record you can upgrade all cadabra years to the new air shock and cartridge bearing magic link. It's a straight swap. Just ask for a g3 aux shock kit

Here is the latest picture with the added bits on a real mountain ride. It was recently from Kananaskis where the floods produced a trail washout about 6 feet deep and 200 feet wide behind the bike.

Enjoy.

Really nice bike I'm looking at buying one at the mo. how does it ride on the roads uphill. I am trying to find a bike to do it all. Lol. That bike probably doesn't exist I know. Does the pro pedal fully lock out the rear end or does it still bob?

Pro pedal doesn't fully lock on a rp23 but it stiffens up just the right amount. No worries about bob. Cadabras pedal and climb really well. Hence why they do really well at enduro racing. Tire choice will make a massive difference for riding on the road. Not tried the maxxis ardents but they look like they might roll well on the road

Sorry about the delay. This post was while I was away on my 2nd trip to the rocky mountains. Thx for the feedback. To your question, the bike works excellent on the uphills. I needed that and it was a priority in my purchase to have a do it all bike, hence the magic link.

The pro pedal does not lock out the rear but it makes a huge difference in the suspension performance overall. I would characterize it as nearly locking out the rear in combination with the kona linkage design on the bike. And remember, with the magic link, it is a 4 inch rear suspension on the uphill. So it climbs really well overall, with propedal and 4 inches of travel. Click the propedal off and it becomes a cushy 6 inch travel ride on the way down.

I do highly recommend the bike because the self adjusting rear linkage flat out works, making the bike radically different from uphill to downhill, when using the propedal option. It just flat out works and very much so in the feeling of the bike as well.

I would suggest following the set up closely recommended by Kona, and make sure you get the magic link with the air shock. It took me a year of various setups to realize just how well it worked with the factory recommendations. I wasn't used to such a soft rear on the bike for descents, But in reality that was the ticket, with the combo propedal stiff uphill settings.

BTW, I had a colleague I met on the trail with an older RP23 with propedal on a rocky mountain, His shock didn't do much on the bike with changes to the propedal, I let him try mine because I notice a huge difference. He did notice those changes much more so on my Kona as well, FWIW.

Also, with this bike, I recommend periodically checking the linkage bolts. In hard core use and terrain they will loosen up a bit over time. Making sure they are tight ensures perfect performance. The bike works so well that it is basically silent in use. Any noise at all and I can tell a bit of basic maintenance is needed.

Just to toss in my two cents here- yeah, the Cadabra is awesome. I'm riding a 2010 and absolutely love it! I have been thinking of giving the G3 upgrade a try- I'm curious about the air shock versus the spring.
