Hi! Has anyone tried fitting a Fox Float X2 rear shock on a Nukeproof Mega 290c frame?
By the specs on the bike, the frame takes a 230*62.5mm shock, while Fox Float X2 only comes in 230*60mm and 230*65mm. Will there be enough space to prevent the back wheel from hitting the post if I run a 230*65mm shock on a Mega frame?
Folks riding the latest Reactor, looking at these I can't decide large or XL... i'm 188cm (6'2") current bike is an XL Ripmo AF which is right in the middle for reach.
Hello, I have a quandry re a Mega 297 frame that I'd very much appreciate some advice upon. It relates to a clearance issue between the lower (left viewed from the drive side) shock bolt and the seatstay. I recently removed the shock to perform a bearing change on the frame but to my surprise there was, literally, zero clearance between the bolt head and the bearing housing section of the seatstay. I got away with removing it with much jiggling and a few fairly deep scratches to the paintwork. Upon attempting to reinstall the shock I stupidly attempted to force it in with grease smeared on the bolt head and the offending part of the seatstay, all this achieved was to chip away a larger portion of paint and lacquer from the carbon layup of the seatstay. Eventually I concluded that the only means of obtaining the necessary clearance was to either: 1) Install the shock in a compressed state, thereby enabling the seatstay to be pivoted forward, giving the bolt head enough clearance to get past. 2) Sand down the bolt head by a couple of mm. I eventually decided on the latter option to make future installations easier and the clearance is just about satisfactory with approx 1.5mm sanded off one side of the head. My question is, has anyone else experienced anything akin to this or is this an indication that there's something off with my frame? Many thanks in advance to anyone whom can advise.
Installing it in a compressed state wouldn’t work with a coil shock so is it possible you need to have the other eyelet(upper shock bolt) unattached so you can move the seatstay until there is clearance?

Doh, why didn't I think of that. Jesus I'm dumb. Thanks, I think that'll work!

I have a Reactor in Large and am 185cm, I feel like I am at the limit (and would like to try an XL) great bike though!

I’m 188cm (long arms/torso) and I’m very happy on a L. I’m on a 50mm stem and 50mm rise 780mm bars for reference. It’s on the smaller side vs trendy numbers, but I ride mostly tight, low/medium speed, technical trails and like to pump and pop for small features. If I were riding longer, high speed descents or using it as a mini enduro race bike I’d consider going xl.
Getting close to buying a SH Reactor and wondered if anyone knows if 29er wheels will fit into a 275 frame? I've looked at pictures of both frames and when fitted with 275 wheels, there is quite a big gap to the seat tube so Im guessing that the only difference is the longer stroke shock.
I am aware that Nukeproof quote a 10mm difference in chainstay length between 275 and 290 frames. 275 frames look to be a bit cheaper hence the question.

I am also 188cm and have the same dilema. The reach on the XL is pretty big but it as a good seated top tube length which I feel is always a factor if you intend to actually ride the bike anywhere other than up a fireroad.
Few comparisons Ive found while reading/watching reviews.
Doddy from GMBN rode an XL and he is 6'1". Saddle was very far forward on seatpost.
Henry Quinney while at GMBN rode a size Large. He is 6'
In an MBR review, Alan Muldoon was testing a Large and he said he was 5'11"
He suggested in that review that anyone 6'2" and above would want an XL.
It does have a pretty big reach for such a short travel bike but for me, I'd need the longer top tube to be able to comfortably pedal seated.
Hello I’m thinking of buying a Nukeproof giga second hand but I have heard loads of stuff about the frames cracking has anyone experienced this or know if it’s true?
Interesting, I bought a Giga second hand after doing thorough research and found that they’re known for going through main pivot bearings but hadn’t read anything about cracked frames.
Honestly, if they're still on offer at CRC I would try to steal or borrow the extra to get a new one. The peace of mind you get from a warranty in your own name is worth the extra money as long as you're saving 30% on retail. Not sure if they are still on offer but they were a couple of weeks ago.
