I'm an ex-machinist turned high end custom hotrod builder that's going off to flight school in the spring.

If you're lost, find an interest and see where that takes you.

Honestly I couldn't find anything that interested me until I started working at a cold stamp factory. Found a way to sneak myself into an apprenticeship program for electrical engineering and I have to say its possibly one of the easiest and least physically demanding jobs I've done. Just trouble shooting a more complicated windows 98.

Moving up the ranks and getting as many qualifications as possible while being a press operator isn't too bad either

my biggest interest is definitely automotive, earning potential and cost of entry (tools) just scares me a bit

Doesn't have to be mechanical repair, can be something like engineering or custom design.

True, that's where the degree and courses could come into play.
