So i just finished building a custom bike rack for my hitch receiver, and am pretty stoked on it, so i wanted to see what everybody else has come up with! over the tail gate contraptions, tray beds, strappy doo-dads, or hanger types like mine! whatever you've built to shuttle your rigs around, lets see em!

i didn't really know where to put this thread, so i figured the PB mechanics would appreciate it the most.

here's mine to start!

Hinged receiver to open tailgate, and a hitch lock so it doesnt rattle around in the truck's receiver
Home made bike rack. hinged receiver to open tailgate. Receiver lock to prevent rattling in the truck receiver

empty, four bikes can fit!

i built it so they go each way so there's more room to see out the back window

and two bikes on one side! lots of room between them!

and the other side

Lazy! You have a bike and a tape measure. if you think you have the right to copy someone else's hard work at LEAST have the courtesy to figure the shit out on your f*cking own.
No advancements in technology EVER come from copying the guy before you.

That's really tidy, I like it. I've been modifying my rack this weekend and will stick some photos up here soon.

Great work here folks! I'm planning to make a rack for the back of my Land Rover Discovery but I haven't even started to plan it yet so I'll get some ideas up when the time comes!

O+

Hey I'm making a vertical hanging rack for myself. I've got a little Subaru with a class 1 hitch receiver (1 1/4") and only plan on carrying a max of 2 bikes. I don't have all the details worked out yet but wanted to get some input on square tubing size and wall thickness. Is 1 1/4" square tubing with 3/16" walls strong enough? Or should I be looking at something thicker?

That should be sufficient. My rack is 2" square x 3/16" wall, and I'm carrying up to 4 bikes, a spare tire, propane tank, etc.

Home made 5 bike rack bolted to the tray of my Hilux with riv-nuts. There are a few little changes I'd implement if I was going to make another. Is also very useful as it adds a lot of anchor points for tying down gear bags and digging tools etc.

This is a rack I finished, it's heavy though... 6 bikes work great behind tundra, going to cut it and sleeve it so I can unbolt outside 2 and make it 4 rack for behind a 4runner.

It has a double hinge system so I can run it behind my buggy and spare tire system... but actually the double hinge thing works good behind a truck, I can lean it forward on top and fits better behind a canopy based truck better.

Same rack, but I now have outside 2 racks can be removed or bolted on. This way it can ride behind 4runner easily with 4 bikes, tundra can do 6 bikes because of extra width... and you can see how it articulates on my go fast buggy Smile

painted up black now, got some big wing nuts for the articulation, and not in picture, but some rubber caps on end of tubes, made it look profesh Smile
