Here is my 1989 Kona Fire Mountain. Had this bike from new and love it. Running single speed. Custom graphics. Just waiting for through axle for new Mavic rear wheel to be fitted, it still has the original Araya wheel which is well past its best at this stage.

It's not an 89 Cus it would be u brake specific on the rear if it was
Brakes have been changed as have many parts over the years since it was bought new. I know it's an 89 bike I bought it the year I started uni
It can't be a '89 since v-brakes won't fit on that frame. The mounts are different on u-brakes than on v-brakes.
I'm guessing it did not look like this one when you've bought it?: Unsecure image, only https images allowed: http://img846.imageshack.us/img846/6174/dsc00074sg.jpgBecause this is the '89 Fire Mountain.
*Unless you'd have some special edition version that I don't know of, or you grind down the u-brake mounts and welded on some v-brake mounts.

here's my 2 currently, I've had the humuhumu for a few years, did a lot of work to get it up to snuff. I just picked up the cinder cone last week....needs lots of work...I've never seen such a worn drivetrain.
it gets pricey when the previous owner used sand rather than grease to lube the bb and headset, and never bothered to tighten his creaky crank so now it's pooched, and never bothered to replace a completely worn out chain, half of which was literally riding on the pins.... so far new bb, crankset, chain, bars, cogs, cables, tires, stem.....
so far I still need the kona seat tube cable guide
