Size is 1 1/8 inch or 1.125 inch. Same thing, As I recall if the cups in the frame are still good clean them up with fine sandpaper or steelwool wipe clean. The headset bearings used are the old fashion ball bearing set. Pack them with grease and install. Make sure your fork has the correct crown race for that frame. Tork in place with the stem bolts loosened and carefully tighten the top cap. Retighten stem bolts and test ride.
Need some help. Just bought a 2006 kona Kula deluxe frame but it needs a new headset and I have zero knowledge about headset sizing on these. Does anyone know what the dimensions are (not actually got it yet). Where can I get a headset for it?
Yes should be standard "inch and an eighth" headset. Whats going on with yours? IF there is play it may just need to be tightened. If its crunchy you can try and clean & re grease the bearings. Otherwise a headset install requires you to remove the old one & press in the new one in addition to replacing the bearing race on the fork. It's easy it you have the tools and have seen it done before, but not worth buying everything if you can pay your bike shop to do it. If they are charging you more than $20 for an install find another shop.
Found it on the side of the highway trashed the other day. No serial number to be found and it's been spraypainted.. so probably stolen at some point in its life. Put some spare parts on it to get it rideable and plan on slowly restoring it. The only hints are the cable mounts/routing, Ritchey dropouts, and some red paint visible underneath the spraypaint.
