The paint on that Brodie & Specialized is friggen amazing! You guys get those resprayed? I have a lot of nice bikes, but paint is NOT the nice part of any of them..
ha...thanks man. The Specialized is original paint.
I bought new in 1985 and I never wound up riding it much at all.... I was a all-out roadie and I just never got the mountain bike thing so (sadly) it just sat mostly.
Somewhat different story for the Brodie. It was painted purple from the factory, which did not sell, so it was repainted red and was hanging on walls most of its life. Some parts were fitted after the respray, but it was never ridden. It changed hands multiple times, though. Now I do my best to not care about the paint and ride it as hard as I dare
As for the rear brake, I tried to take utmost care with the adjustment, toe-in, pad placement on the rim, height of the cable hanger, friction in the canti tube, brand new pads...the lot.
I have no idea why it sucks as much as it does. Maybe, thinking about it just now, it might be that canti tube. There are a number of bends in it and the harder I pull the lever, the more friction is exerted and the less force is ending up at the brake... That style of cable management saw multiple changes between 93 and 95.
Nevertheless I'll be fitting a V-brake and full length housing with stick-on cable guides. So please enjoy the beauty of it now, before it's ruined
Weekly ride with friends. Still getting acquainted with the Catalyst. Such a fast bike for its age. The HeiHei belongs to a good friend. It's his main bike and currently a mule to test the cranks he designed himself. Pretty rad.
