In the "Post Your DH Bike" we started to see something interesting as Members started to post their whole history-timeline and progression of all their bikes they use to ride. From the very first bike you rode, to the cheap generic bike at a young age, then to a full-on beautiful dedicated DH rig, there's a great story in all of our history of bikes. Not to mention, it'll be awesome to see what everyone started from to present day. This thread is dedicated to show your bike history!

Rules:
1) Post most significant of your bikes that you had, starting from your first bike. Riding pics are cool too.
2) No matter what kind of bike, all bikes/pictures have a story behind them, no judging here and respect everyone. We all started from something.
3) While listing model/brand, please try to find pictures for every bike (yours perferably or internet), it'll make things easier to understand.
4) This can get time-consuming to post bikes and the stories behind them, so, don't feel like you're obligated to write for each picture. If you want to, perfect, ppl will read it. If not, just post the pictures in order or numbered off. It's all up to you on how much you want to write!
5) Humor/Sarcasm is tolerated but only in good taste. No trolling, etc.

- Mods, I would like to make this thread universal for everyone who wants to show off their history, that would be amazing, but obviously don't know what "group" to put it into. Let me know.

-----------------

I'll start first (obviously) and here's something what your timeline should look like. Try to stay clean and organized.

My History:
1) First bike, Cheap Generic Bike, Age 8-9?
At a very young age I remember seeing all my friends ride their bikes in my neighborhood. At that point, I didn't know how to ride my bike with or without training wheels as my family was always busy working. But one day I just literally wanted to bike with my friends. So, I took a cheap generic bike out of the garage (which was bought for me ironically) and took me a minute, but I just got on and started riding. No training wheels, no experience before. Just started riding. Remember the feeling of riding very vividly.

2) GT Aggressor 2.0
Moved away to another city/town. Didn't ride for a bit. But my mother who was "suppose" to get into MTB didn't so we had a Mens "Small" GT Aggressor 2.0 Hardtail which I pretty much stole from her and abused the living crap out of it. Not like she used it.. Wink

3) GT I-Drive 5 (Wow, I found my old picture..)
Trashed the Aggressor. For a while I didn't bike. At this time I was clueless about Pinkbike, UCI, anything related to biking. But, I got a catalog for Santa Cruz and really was attracted to them and wanted a Superlight at that time. But, settled on a GT I-Drive 5 first real XC bike.

4) Sold GT I-Drive 5, Personal Problems (2 Years ago)

5) Santa Cruz Heckler
Finally, without riding or having a bike for 2 years, I got a Santa Cruz Heckler. It was my first real serious, self-bought bike. At this time I found out about Pinkbike and then my head exploded from all the new information...Upgraded the bike, flipped it, and sold it!

6) VP-Free
After getting the DH bug (I was riding more at parks and stuff), I decided to get the VP-Free. Great choice and extremely happy. The frame fits my mentality of "durability" but still shreds like a dream. Drove 7+ total hours just to get the bike! Still dialing it in. 4/9/12 -- Putting on M820 Derailler, Icetech rotors, pedals, few smaller bits, then wheels..can't wait!
Incoming or Short List Saint M820 Derailleur waiting on part Black w Red Grips Ice Tech Rotors Black Machined Pedals Red Chainring Bolts 11-28 Cassette RF Stealth Chainring 40 Decals. Big Stuff Spank 28Race Wheelset or Subrosa Black w Red Hubs. New Air shock
There's my history! What's yours?

Thanks man! Yeah I hope so too. It was taking off in the DH bike thread and still waiting on all them to transfer their histories over to here. But it doesn't have to be the most intricate history ever. Just pics and a word or 2 Big Grin

It worked in the beginning, but boy did I thrash it
2) I had another bike between this, but it wasn't DH
So heres my 1st DH bike. Loved it, but was unfortunately too small

New pictures for Sales Purposes
Which I traded for this
3)
New Norco 4xxxx I traded my Flatline for. Probably going to resell this
Then traded the 4xxxx for this
4)
FOR BUYSELL
I was riding this until I got a sponsorship deal, which led me to getting this beauty
5)
New 2012 Rocky Mountain Flatline Pro and new Raceface AtlasFR bars Thanks the Blacks Cycles and Rocky Mountain bikes
It currentley sits at this, after some breaking parts

The trading worked out pretty well! Thanks man! I've still got more plans for it, just need to get the funds to do them. Lots I'd love to do to it. Your end result bike is looking pretty sweet too!

Yeah, I can see that lol. And thanks man. With me, just trying to line up a chainguide w/ BB mount adaptor...pain in the ass on a 73mm BB ISIS drive. Lmao. I'm very happy where my bike is at but just need a few more small things.

But isn't it crazy what we started with? Of course you gotta start from the lower side of things and work your way up but to me i would of never imagined myself being into dh or biking in general this much hah.

learned to ride on normal, supermarket bikes that i don't even remember the color... got rid of training wheels one weekend at a farm because my brother wanted to teach me how to ride a bike so he told me that my bike didn't fit on the car's trunk with training wheels on so he removed them

first bike i have memory of, was a Bianchi full suspension (like 50mm front and rear and 24" wheels) that i got as a x-mas present, still don't know how my dad managed to hide it for about a week and put it next to the door before i got home... eventually, i grew up and the bike was too small for me, but my brother started riding XC so i still rode that on XC tracks

then, (about 12 years old) i wanted a better bike to be able to go XC riding with my brother so my dad told me that i needed to work and save money... so he helped me with 60% to 70% of whatever i wanted to buy if i earned that money by myself, selling candy at school, washing his car, etc... about a month later, i told him that i had money and i wanted to buy the bike, so we went to the lbs and i started picking stuff, looking at prices, doing math and stuff so whatever i had in my pocket was arround 30% or 40% the bike was arround $350 + a helmet, some jerseys, gloves (both full finger and xc open finger ones) and a shitload of random stuff got to a total of arround $500 and my dad was really surprised that i got about $150 in a month and said "oh shit! i had no idea you wanted a bike that expensive! I was just making fun of you, doing your math wrong... but i guess i'll just have to shut up and get the credit card" (dad looking proud)

Unsecure image, only https images allowed: http://bimg1.mlstatic.com/bicicleta-de-raleigh-m20-mountain-sport_MCO-F-17587472_9006.jpgreally close to the actual bike, different stem, better seat (blue and white xc velo) and better cranks

then my brother told me that there was something called DH... and that we should do that to be better than normal xc riders (go uphill like everyone else and then own the downhill sections of the track)

eventually, i realized that DH was too much fun and got a shorter stem, maxxis mofo and mobster tires and a full face

Unsecure image, only https images allowed: http://www.bikeculture.ch/Prod_img/maxxis_mo.jpgmofo tire...

photo
mobster tire

then i got a giant warp frame and a chainguide... and started building another XC bike... eventually, the shock died so i just installed the "DH" parts on the xc frame and rode that

photo
actual bike

then i started saving for a specialized big hit... but components were not good enough for the price (Colombian prices were different than usa prices at that time so spesh was expensive as hell) so i got a stinky that i started upgrading (please take a look at the seat)

photo

then i got a hardtail

photo
photo

and then at my family's farm (were i learned how to ride without learning wheels), some commies kidnaped me (google FARC) for 2 weeks so my family said that mountains were not safe, terrorists are there... so i sold both bikes and got a mob

photo

and we moved to Bogota, were dh trails are far away from the city...

then the terrorists got killed (army gave us the good news that they hunt down those commies that kidnapped me) only one of them (the "civilian" rat that told those shits that my family had money) is still alive but he thinks we are living in spain... i do not actually like to talk this way, that was 2 years ago... but if that piece of shit is still alive and out of jail after 3 years, i'll pay someone to hunt him down and impale him (that's arround $1500 - $2500) and then, when they bury him, i'll go to the cementary with a shovel and shit on his grave, not just as vengeance for those 2 weeks but because i recently realized that he killed the best dog i have ever heard of... Orion (the dobermann, the legend)

as it wasn't dangerous to live at my hometown anymore, i sold the mob frame and the argyle and got a 2nd hand 36 and a marin frame (+ gears and fr stuff)

then the frame cracked, the fork died and i got this

I know! Thats the earliest picture of a bike I had. I had a tiny Norco full suspension kids bike before that. So I went "trail riding". I never thought I would end up with a bike like I have now. I look back at what I started with and I've gone a long ways on that side. I'm lucky that my 1st DH was actually pretty nice! Ended up with the Flatline again now, so happy with that. I started biking with no training wheels when I was 3 y/o.
EDIT: Thats quite the story to go along with that! Atleast your back doing what you love by the sounds of it!

this is going to be a long one, just hang in there,so i started on this
photo
then got this about a year later
photo
then i got this thang
photo
traded frames and a few other parts for this
photo
at this point i traded the trek for my first dj bike after riding bmx for a few months
photo
after i sold the rocky i decided i wanted to build a demo with the money i had saved up
my new 2012 demo frame
then my dj bike broke and i got my p.3 frame
my new p.3 frame built up
demo never saw any trails under me but i did sell it to get this
the m6
which i then sold the frame and got this flatline and some nice parts
Now has black atlas fr bars also soon to have a i beam seat and post as well as a new wheelset
more upgrading of the p.3 led to this
photo
then i got into the trail bike game which led to this bad ass bike
photo
after a little more upgrading i have this currently

Well we both had 1st gen Flatlines, then ended up with the new ones. You planning on replacing it still?

Makes sense! If you get a sponsorship from Specialized, then you get one. I love my Flatline and am not planning on switching away from it!
