I use Spank Tug Job grips for DJ and some random teva grips i got at crankworx for DH. I usually ride gloveless unless it's raining. It makes it easier to feel where the bike's moving and what it's doing.

i ride with gloves, but only because my hands always stick to the grips. i dont about what grips i have as long as there is something for me to hold on to.

you could ride without grips then, you'd have the bars to hold onto

i tried that once actually... it didn't go to well. let me rephrase, i dont care about the pattern of the grip. they are only there to absorb some of the shock

last time I looked, its awfully hard to hold on to bare metal..

Grips are called grip(s) for a reason, theyre not shock absorbers.
