If you go up aston, Going there when it's wet is not the best idea. The mud up there is something special. It's either claggy, or really slippy. The push up is no fun in the mud, Ive ended up walking up the road before, Once i managed to get halfway up to get on it.

Agree 100% with this completely, went to PORC today, was a little muddy, but was an awesome day.

Best place in the rain is Woborn sands or Chicksands. They don't bog up at all Smile

Totally agree, Aston hill in the wet is as slippery as an otters pocket, Rogate is the same as Chicksands and Woburn nice and grippy after a bit of rain.

Stoughton downhill is north of Chichester.

Rogate DH is north of Portsmouth, near petersfield.

Steyning DH is north of worthing.

What do people think of Rogate? Where else does it compare to?

For me Rogate is a little hit and miss depending on the weather. I find it's pretty good in the damp or wet, but when super dry in the summer the sand can be pretty slow and/or unpredictable. But that's just me personally. I know a lot of people love the place.

There is a fair amount of variety there tho. And racing a mate on the DD line is always a blast. It's a shame some of the runs are not longer too, they are over in a blink of an eye!

I am not sure where you could compare it to, especially I'm the local area.

Sounds good, not really local though. Trying to figure out if it's worth the 1.5 hours drive from Clapham.

In the winter time places to ride are def rogate, chicksands and woburn real nice winter soil as they take the rain really well. Not sure about riding uk bike park on a bmx. The black dh runs are black for a reason. It was my local i was from dorset and getting 20+ runs with uplift is awesome fun and you dont waste energy pushing up so you can put more effort into your dh runs. I would try out most places as every where is different and you can decide for your self.

Having ridden most of the locations above i've settled on PORC as my regular local due to a combination of distance/time to get there, push up and how good it is.

Bit of online research recently though and i've come across a few new ones, always looking for new places to ride. Anyone know anything about Froyle quarry and Avery woods? I also saw a video shot somewhere in/near Esher? That would be ideal as i'm spending a fortune on petrol. Are these places open to the public? What are they like?

Also, as a newbie, anyone know if the Honey race series is for amateurs?

Cheers

An update on Esher ... It was a bike park and it looked great (https://www.moredirt.com/trail_gallery.php?bikeusername=&cat_id=0&search=&datespan=&id=89&page=2) but it got bulldozed. Such a shame as it was soo close. Considering some secret digging in Richmond park.
