Hi guys today when i was riding i crashedCry nothing big but i landed on my left wrist...was kinda like a forward-roll...would have made a good video..but anyways ive had some pain in my left wrist. This was early on in the day, so i took the pain and kept on riding. Yes it was probly stupid, but it was a good ride and i was enjoying my self, desbite the discomfert in my wrist. Im guessing its just a sprain, but im wanting to be back on the bike asap so i thought i would ask.

When i bend my hand back it hurts, when i move it forward it hards - like moving your wrist/hand to the extreme. With small movements i dont get alot of pain, its just like a reminder. Moving my fingers is fine, and so is typing i guess.

So do you guys think its just a sprain? What should I all do to make it heal quickly?
Im guessing just not ride for a couple of days and take it easy?

Thanks for reading all that, it would be good for some help.

Whats a mixed feeling? when you see your mother in law backing of a cliff, in your new car!

It sounds like a sprain. One very useful thing to have is those elastic band type things which you slip your wrist into, they reduce pain a lot and keep the wrist more or less in one place, speeding up recovery. Don't forget to take it off during the night though, last time I forgot to take it off my elbow after a bad sprain I woke up with fingers which, I kid you not, were twice the diameter they should be; all the blood in my arm had been trapped in my fingers. Painful experience, try to avoid it. Wink

wow, talk about timing! I was just checking this before i go up to bed - i was planning with sleeping with mine on. Luckily theres a chemist in the village close to the trail head so i went and got one straight away when we finished riding.
So not a good idea to sleep with it on - thanks seems like you just saved me some more pain Big Grin Salute

No problem. Wink It wasn't so much the pain (which was a fairly strong "pressure buildup" type of pain) as just the "Holy shit" as I woke up and looked at my numb hands, I was pretty shocked to say the least, they were the size of frying pans. So, take it off for the night but always wear it during the day and just avoid using your wrist for anything for a week or two and hopefully you're set.

Sounds like a sprain or muscle damage here.

Normally ( or in the 549523259 bones Ive f*cked) if its a fracture, it'll only really hurt if you bend it one way. As in if you bend it forward, youl'l notice it a tad, wiggle if left and right and you'll only notice it, but if you bend it back, you scream like a girl Smile

This is only in my cases, and I by no means claim to be a doctor!

Edit...and if its swollen...wait for the swelling to go down using frozen peas/ice and elevation, then exercise it.

Yeah, definitely avoid doing PE. I'd avoid pretty much everything that's avoidable, instead of Pinkbikeing (for example) listen to music, or watch a movie, something that doesn't require constant hand use.

I always favour a visit to the doctor though, but that's up to you; I can only provide you with past experiences which in no way are as good as a doctor's advise. Wink

Big Grin my mums a doctor, normaly i would be sorted, but shes taken a job in Australia for 3months working for the bbc and artmis films doing a documentry. Frown bad timing for an injury 2days after she went off!

Yeh, ill do my best to avoid using it.

Thanks for all the input guys, its making me feel so much better =]

No problem. Smile See if you can have a quick talk with your mom (either phone, email, etc), it's always good to have a specialist have your back.

just try lay off it for a while

ignore it and it might go away

some time to heal will get you back quicker

if its still hurting after a few days maybe get someone to have a look at it
