Hi all.

This afternoon the wife snapped and said "Ok get a new bike just stop banging on about it" - Success! xD

So my search has begun for a full suss all mountain bike, my issues are as follows, £1500 to spend, first ever full susser, don't know anything about full suss, I know the difference between AM/DH/XC/Freeride and it's either AM or XC i want to go for, I go to glen tress in Scotland fairly regularly now so either of these types will be suited. ( I think)

Anyway, I'm here for advice and opinions so let me know if there's anything you guys recommend or whatever.

Cheers

for glentress you are probably going to need a more am bias bike around the 130mm-150mm
if you do alot of flat rides aswell then you are probably wanting to go nearer 130mm bikes like these:

http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=95404

but if you ride more aggressive get more air and handle rougher tracks and don't mind a bit of punishment on the uphills a 140mm-160mm

these are just recommendations but these are the bikes i would be looking at hope i helped and if you have any more questions i will try and help.Salute

Canyons seem to be one of the best for VFM, if you dont mind direct mail order from germany.

I strongly recommend Giant Reign 1.

Talas and CTD FOX suspension, SLX group and chain guide, dropper post, u got everything u need for a AM bike.

and it's light.about 13+ kgs.

I've seen other models, which all have apparent insufficient specs, Giant Reign 1 is really well balanced and can surly meet your demand for a long time.

REALLY?!?!
I see this

http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-us/bikes/model/reign.1/11517/55878/

And here it is officially sold at around 19000 RMB in China....roughly 2000 pounds. I donno why it costs more there...

I think £2000 and a little discount from local store will do...

Alright....get a used Reign 1....

when buying a bike I like to try and stay away from all the bling. You want something practical and durable, that you can buy parts for easily. I still stick with 1 1/8 head sets and shocks. common thru axil QR, and 26" wheels. I like Fox or marazochi for front suspension, and fox for the rear.
Consider the cost of breaking a part on any bike you buy. Common things like Derailer hangers can be super expensive on some bikes. so can bushings, bearings, headsets, ect. as far as the bike itself, simple is better. you want tough and light not bling and gimmicks. ride the bike you want to buy first. you will know pretty quickly if it will work for you. on the other hand any bike you ride won't be set up for you so if the shop can help you set it up it before you try it would help.
Pay attention to the things companies cheap out on, derailers for example. you don't want to be stuck with Deore if you can have x7, or xt. same with tires. try to get something suited the terrane you ride, thrown into the deal.
hope this helps.

I have the 2009 Giant Trance X4, and I love it. I did upgrade front and rear suspension, wheels, and tires. The Suspension was for more travel in front, and more plush in back, the wheels was for shits and giggles, and the wheels because they were worn out. If you do get something similar, like a newer Trance, I would upgrade it to at least a 150mm travel (if it isn't there already) because to me it seems to make it SO MUCH better. The new wheels are also the Azonic Outlaws, which are for DH/FR, so it can be a bit more banged up. It weighs, like 25 or so pounds, so its good on weight, and I can climb and descend like a boss. So, moral of story here is that the Giant Trance line, even though all new ones from here on out will be 650Bs, they are great, and the Trance X4 is about in your price range, so it is good for the money! So sorry for the run on, but I love the Trance X4.

Also look at the warranty on the frame, some manufacturers give 2-3 years some give 5+ years or lifetime.
