Ha ha I am in the same boat. I have a 2015 Trance 3 that I have changed everything but the frame itself. Great bikes, I really love it. You can see it how it is now in my mobile uploads. I am throwing the 12spd XT on my current build. I am excited to try it out.

Anyone still riding old Trances? I've upgraded nearly everything on my 2014 Trance 3 hahah but I still have the stock rear mech, stock shifter and stock cranks though. Contemplating going to 12 speed XT now. Bike is still way more capable than I am. Advice? I'm pretty deep into upgrading this one

Specs:
160 Pike with 2 tokens
RC3 200x57 with 2 volume spacers
DT Swiss E1700 wheelset, 36t ratchet, 12x142 rear
PNW 120mm Ridge dropper
PNW bars
Truvativ 60mm stem
Shimano Zee brakes 200mm F 180mm R
Magic Mary Addix soft F Hans Dampf R
WTB Volt saddle
Race Face NW 32T

Have a 2016 3, only the stem, cranks, BB, and headset are the same. Did 11 spd XT a couple years ago and don't see the need for the 12 speed stuff, that will just be on my next bike. Really enjoy the Trance but next bike will be a 29er of some sort for sure.

I've still got a 2014 frame as well. Only thing left stock on it is the headset. Probably won't be replacing it until I absolutely have to.

Specs:
160 Mezzer Pro
Float X 200x50 with largest spacer
Flow Mk3 rims on Hope Pro4's
Highline 125mm dropper
Descendent bar and 40mm stem
Magura MT Trail Sport brakes 180 F&R
DHR II 2.4 WT F&R
XT 10 spd w/Sunrace 11-42 cassette
Raceface NW 30t

Have you demoed a 29 yet, what height are you? Looking at a new bike next year, but still loving the trance. Was hoping giant would bring out a new 275 version next year, but not convinced they will. Not sure to stay 275 or go 29, personally feel the race scene has pushed 29 forward. I get 29 for taller riders but for shorter riders (below 5ft 7) feel 275 is better suited.

well, i have a 2012 reign, and its still tight and amazing. If your bearings and pivots are holding up a fresh drivetrain is nice. I've gone 10spd xtr on mine, cranks, der, triggers, cassette. all used for cheap. going all new is an option, but standards evolve and it can get tricky. I'd review the bike and figure what you want it to do better, go from there.

I bet its very fun as is!

Hey guys,

Not sure if anyone is still posting on this thread, but I just wanted to check if anyone knows the definite shock size of my giant trance 4 2016. I’m reading through this and seeing that it could be 200x51. Can anyone confirm please, it is not on the spec online.

You can find pictures of my bike in my mobile uploads on my profile.

Thanks
Mike

If you are changing shocks you might as well go with a 200x57 though. Works absolutely fine and will get you quite bit more rear travel (~158mm).

156.47mm Big Grin

Works well did it myself with both a Float X and DHX2. But all that said it starts writing cheques its geo struggles to cash.

Anyone know the spacers required on the bottom shock bolt for a 2018 Giant Trance Advanced? Also any information on where to buy replacement linkage spacers. Thanks!

I haven't test rode a 29 yet but I have a feeling I will like the added rolling speed. I'm 6 feet tall so a good flickable 29er might be the ticket.

I thought I'd give a coil a try on my 2017 Trance and bought a used Super Deluxe coil, a take off from a Norco Sight with a 55 mm stroke.

Does anyone know, will it bolt right on or will I need different spacers on the non-trunnion end?

I'd also love to know what weight springs people are using if they are running the same set up. I'm 150lb and it comes with a 350. I'm thinking it might not be enough.
