34 probably. Check out Sheldon Brown's gear calculator online. Punch in what you got now and compare it to a 32 and a 34 then decide for yourself

11-36 w/ 32t

On my next bike I'll probably run a 34t with a 11-42t out back for the climbs. I sometimes spin out on the downs with my 32t

On my 29er i run a 34t 10-42 1x11
On my 650b i run a 36t 10-42 1x11

Basically the smaller the wheel the larger the chainring. Both my bike with different rings have almost the exact same gear ratio's cause of the different sized wheels.

150mm 29er full suss - 11-40 cassette and 30t XX1 ring.
140mm 29er hard tail - 11-40 cassette and 30t race face NW ring.

Lots of steep climbs with reasonably steep descents around here so my gearing reflects that with a reasonably spinny bottom gear on both bikes.

I got a 1x9 setup. 11-34 cassette and 32t absolute black Chainring. I can just about get up the steepest climbs and still pedal hard descending. Chainring itself is awesome, great retention and wear rate.and weighs nothing!
I ride a 120mm HT too.

11-42 cassette with an 38t oval chainring. I can handle almost everything. I'll probably swap for the Trickstuff 11-41 cassette for the less weight. All these on a fully 29er. Use your legs, they have power inside them, I guess. Smile )

Wow I finally found someone Using a 38T up Front I was beginning to think I was the only one..
I have a 11-36 in the rear . This was originally a X9 2x10 setup and without thinking about it I just removed the small 24T , shifter and front D . I ride mostly CC , nothing too steep one way or the other, I am now wondering if I would be suffering with this setup on steep upgrades .. This is all on a Felt 27.5 , Now I'm thinking when I get back to more hilly riding I might need to change things but as of now It seems I don't have enough low gearing and too much high, but I guess that's typical when you riding on flat ground LOL

I am running 32T chainring and 11-36t cassette, perfect setup for my local trails! If I had a 1x11 groupset running an 11-42t cassette I'd run it with a 34t chainring!

Is there some poll for nw rings?
I mean whicn one is better?
OneUP, Race Face, WolfTooth, AbsoluteBlack, Garbaruk, Neutrino, Hope, E13,..... ??

104BCD, normal round
for 1x10

Definitely not race face cinch direct mount. Will be the same material as there normal 104bcd. They wear our fast cost a load and can drop
chains even when new. The blacksprire snaggletooth ring I replaced them with is doing a much better job all round and still looks like newish. Also liking the standard steel shimano ring that came with my slx Crankset I stuck on my hardtail. Never dropped ever despite my best efforts and it being a hardtail.. Heavy but should last a eternity being steel. But not std 104 unless they do a regular version.

Cheap options to add to the list:

Work Components: http://www.workscomponents.co.uk/chainrings--cogs-19-c.asp
Uberbike: https://www.uberbikecomponents.com/category/491/Narrow-Wide-Chainrings

I think a friend of mine got a Works on his old bike, and it does indeed work.

Wolftooth on my own bike has been running well for three summers. Started dropping chains after a year so added a top chain guide.

ColorGo 36t in green to match the green on my bike and OneUp 40 on the cassette. $15 on Amazon; put it on almost a year ago and no problems. 11-40 ten speed cassette, 32t was too low for me. Will probably go 11-42 and 38t up front when mine wear out.

Isn't it too much for front NW ring??
Usualy people install 30T, 32T or 34T.

You're probably living in florida or kansas if you're rocking a 38t up front.

32t is great for all around climbing and descending.
