Hey all,

Planning a trip to Hafjell for 11 days (since the bikepark is closed mon-wed do basically two weekends on the trot) - wondered if anyone had any adice or tips on how to organise?

We're planning on flying from oslo then renting a van to get to and from hafjell, and gives us the option to explore on our days off riding.

Found some relatively cheap ski lodges for around £150gbp for the week per person.

Is there any other bikeparks close or any recommendations/experiences of doing logn trip there?

Cheers

Since you have a van and are on a bit of a road trip, you may want to look into doing some days at Åre bike park. I have not been there, but hear good things. Google tells me that’s a 7 hour each way drive from Hafjell.

Hafjell is a great bike park, I get a few days there a year and always have fun. Only down side is that it not that many trails, so depending on your skill level you may get a little tired of it after effectively 8 or so days in a row.

Another close option is Traktor bike park, located between Oslo and Hafjell so it’s in your path. Again, I have not been there but they host a national enduro each year. You can find it on google and the website is in Norwegian, but maybe shoot them an email and see what you options may be for riding there during the time of your trip.

Hope that helps.

Hey, that's awesome. We're there for 4 days then another 4 days so hoping that there are enough trails there!

To be honest the rollercoaster trail looks amazing, as well as all the other trails there. I'd say we will hit most stuff with confidence so hoping should have fun on all the trails, as well as probably have a few days filming too and sessioning jumps Smile

I would like to hire a van but it is expensive out there, and seems a long drive to anywhere else, which would push up the cost of our trip. Maybe we could do 4 days in hafjell and 4 days in are - I will look into it.

Ive been to Hafjell and Åre, and both are amazing places but Hafjell got the bigger stuff like WC track and Rollercoaster.
The Norwegian currency is low atm but still i belive its expencive if you wanna travel to Åre.

I know there is a place in Drammen, but i have not been there so i cant tell if its good or not...

Rollercoaster is an incredible trail. Always fun.

Drammen is good. If you have a day at the beginning or end of your journey in Oslo, then yes go there. Several great trails, but it’s a small local resort. They are open a month earlier than Hafjell so it’s a great early season place to get a session or two in.

Hello,

I agree with all the previous comments. Åre and Hafjell are both amazing places to ride. I personally preferred Åre a bit better since the entrance to the park is basically downtown and there is a bit more life / nightlife in town then I experienced in Hafjell. The Shimano trail is a nice jump line.

If you're not only looking for park riding in Norway the following link might be useful.

http://hallingdal.trailguide.no

This is a kind of Norwegian trailforks.

Trysil is not too far away from Hafjell. They have also invested in some trails but there is no lift assist. Other places which I think are worth visiting if you have the time are Nesbyen and Geilo.Nesbyen has amazing trails. There is no lift assists but you can probably organise some shuttling when you talk to the guys from trailhead.no.

In Geilo the locals have build some nice trails and you have a lift. In addition there are a couple of nice trails around town without lift assist.

If you travel from A to B in Norway you can calculate with an average speed of 60 km/h. So you'll get an idea how much time you'll spend on the road when you plan your trip.

Cheers Calle

Hey ya'll, I'm in Norway on a family vacation. Next week I'm going over to hafjel for one day of riding in the bike park. I am also thinking about trying to find some cool DH or AM riding around Oslo for a day while I'm staying in town. I'd need to rent a nice mountain bike to hit the trails around town if I found any. Something like an enduro, or stumpjumper. Does anyone know of any shops that rent nice mountain bikes, and/or know of any trails around oslo?

I've been out here for the summer. I drove over and brought my bike with me just so I can ride. I'm working outside of Oslo.

If you bring an enduro or trail style bike you can really take advantage. There is some really cool backcountry stuff if you get a map and are prepared to explore.

Most of the forests in Norway are right to roam, so any footpath if fair game, unless otherwise stated. There are some small nature reserves around where I am that don't allow bikes.

I'm between Olso and Drammen. Will finally go to Drammen skisenter this week which should be good.

Download an app called 'UT.no' it's a pretty good outdoor app, which is in Norwegian but you get this grasp of it after a while.

Tells you where footpaths are, hostels, and lodges if you do multi day trips etc.

Hi! I made a mistake and assumed that the Hafjell bike park is open during Monday and Tuesday... I've already booked my train and hostel at Lillehammer. Would anyone in the area be interested in shuttling or riding some local trails on August 1 &2? I'm riding a DH bike so i can't ride up too much but I'm down for anything really.

Thanks!!

Hi guys! I am moving to Oslo next month.I'll live there at least a year.
I'm wondering when actually the mtb season ends there? ( if there is snow, I preffer to ski )
And when in spring time the season starts ?

Cheers!

Here you'll find all you need Smile The Bike Park is open until 9. October.

The winter season really depends though. If its a good year (snow comes early) they will open earlier.

I do more of all mountain riding and don't depend on bike parks too much.
So I am more interested of chances to ride ( Oslo area ) during november - april period let's say.
Generally when do people ride their bikes during the year ??

hi everyone,

we are going on our annual Scandinavian trip and will be arriving in Hafjell on July 12 for 2-3 riding days. We would like to do some wild camping in the area. Can anyone suggest good spots to camp?

Posted: Jul 6, 2017 at 17:32 Quote
There is a camp called "gipsy camp" right next to the lifts. Free of charge to stay there.
Also there are toilets, shower open from 06:00-00:00.

Hi all. Planning a trip to hafjell next July.
Flights aren't too expensive to Oslo but I could do with some advice on transfers from Oslo and places to stay close enough to pedal to the bike park.
ThankyouSmile
