If this is your first ramp, I would suggest making it 4' or 5' tall instead of 6' tall. You can still do a lot off a 4' or 5' tall lip.

Most launches are between 60 to 70 degrees of arc. However, for "sender" lips, they can be less than that. Most beginner builders seem to make the mistake of making a ramp too steep. It's better to have a mellower radius than one that is too steep. So for 5' tall I would recommend 9' or 10' radius, and for 6' tall, 11 or 12' radius.

Note how this lake jump is mellower--maybe 45 or 50-ish degrees of arc... but it's still steep enough to do a double flip....

Do you reckon 9ft radius would be too steep for a 6ft kicker? im looking for height more than distance

It'll work, and it's definitely been done before . . . . but it is going to be steep. I would consider that an expert/pro level ramp.

But, keep in mind, you can still go high off a mellower transition . . . I took this pic last week at Colorado Freeride Fest. If you look at the ramps from the side, though, they're not as steep as you might think. Looks like 55-60ish degrees of arc to me....

Pretty good to be honest, went with a 13ft radius in the end if i can remember correctly, not to steep, not too mellow????????

Wasup guys I’m trying to build a 4ft 5 kicker ramp for a trick jump in my garden as I don’t have the space in my garden for a 7 ft tall one, anyways I want it to have like a small gap like around 3 ft for new tricks like backflip and so on so what should the radius be for the kicker be? Thanks!

How much room do you have for the jump and to get speed?

Check out this thread.

For a role in I’m going to have a 6/7ft tall one and I’m going to dig a ditch about half a foot down in the ground where the ramp will go in and it will be a slight step up to the landing I have about 15 meters of space so not a lot of room but enough for a decent jump,I need the lip to be about 4.5 foot tall and quite steep so I can get a decent amount of air time that gap will be about 1/2 foot between the lip and landing so do you know a good radius for the takeoff to be as It’s my first time building? Thanks

Seth made a video and discusses the recommended radius at around 9:20

Do you think 7.5 radius for 4.5 ft kicker is good for a small gap but good for tricks of air time?

Your going to want atleast double the height of the ramp for the radius. 7.5’ radius is too steep

Go to a parking lot or somewhere and draw some different radius ramps on the ground- you will then get a better idea what your after
