So I'm planning an MTB/DH trip to Vancouver next year and bringing my Norco back to its home province; thinking mid to late 2015, somewhere between May and August.

Just wanting a few pointers about tracks to ride, places to go/not to go, best bike shops, food places and places to stay you can think of just to help me narrow down my options. Not sure best time of year to visit to be honest (if there is one) but planning on staying in North Vancouver at least.

Any pointers or recommendations would be awesome Smile

I'd recommend starting at fromme. Head north on mountain highway in north vancouver. There's a really good trailmap at the base of the mountain. All the trails are really well marked with good variety of difficulty levels.

Fromme and Seymour in North Vancouver have awesome trails (http://nsmba.ca/trail-maps). There are apple and android apps with all maps for the North shore (http://www.trailmapps.com/index.asp). They cost sth like $10 (for all three northshore mountains), but its well worth it. The Northshore doesn't necessarily have beginner friendly terrain, but if you like steep/technical/rooty/rocky/lots of woodwork you'll have a great time; some pedalling is necessary however there are some shuttling routes. The trail association(s) do great work in maintaining the trails. Honestly, every couple months I find a new favourite trail.

Squamish is 60km north of Van and has an amazing trail network (http://www.sorca.ca/trails/squamish-trail-maps/); their maps also come in an apple/android app version (same link as the northshore trail app). And the Whistler bike park opens sometime in May probably.

Weather wise, May to August should be fine. Last few summers have been amazing, to say the least.

Buy this book:

Squamish is great as mentioned, as well the fraser valley is worth checking out. Can't really go wrong anywhere in the lower mainland, it should be easy to find maps and info for most riding areas online. Then just pick what you want to ride, and go there. Not sure how long you'll be around, but if you have a week I'd say 3 days north shore (1 at each mountain), 2 days squamish, and 1 day ledgeview/sumas. If you have more time you could check out more areas.

The book above is probably the best resource for north shore.
Here's a good resource for fraser valley: http://fvmba.com/ , or this book: http://www.mec.ca/product/5041-100/locals-guide-to-fraser-valley-rides/?bc=10/20027

As for places to stay, I'm not sure about North Van, but in Squamish I like to camp at Alice Lake. Great campground, nice swimming in the lake, hiking, and you can access great trails right from your campsite, no need to drive anywhere.

Weather is usually pretty good in the summer, if you're staying in North Van then the holiday Inn is pretty close to trails. but I would definitely recommend Alice lake as it is pretty close to Whistler, Squamish, and North Van and it has a great Lake to swim in and is just an all around good place to camp. As for riding, check out Fromme first and give Ladies Only or Espresso a try, trail maps are super good too. Seymour's fun and start with CBC and then go down corkscrew and give pingu-pangor or pingu-boogieman a try. Squamish is definitely a place you have to ride too, and Whistler Bike Park is like heaven on earth for DH bikes. and if for some weird reason you get bored the Sunshine Coast is just a ferry ride away. As for bike shops Cove bikes and John Henry bikes are my two personal favourite shops, Cove for service quality and they do it pretty quick, and John Henry for friendliness and customer service. PM me if you have any other questions
