I'm not a great contributor to forums and won't wade through threads looking to add my 2cents worth but if it's of any help to owners of any older Reigns (mine being 2015 '1' - orange/yellow), whom would like an affordable (don't tell ya non-biking partner) Shock upgrade and your running a Monarch Plus Debonair, look no further than Vorprungs 'Tractive' tuning options. This has transformed a reasonable shock into a bump-soaking beast. While I'm not a huge jumper (2-3m gaps/ 1.5m step downs) - this tune keeps the arse-end more planted overs small speed bumps and those jump-to-flats are damped considerably. No doubt better/faster riders may want more feedback from their suspension but I've got a predictable back end now.
Awesome!

Same question as Coney, what's the process you went through? I'm interested in this. Their website is slim on info.

Edit: Asked elsewhere. Send it in, 1 day turnaround.

On another topic, chasing down an annoying back end creak recently. Discovered the rear axle hole in the frame is ovalized. May have been caused by a loose rear derailleur mounting bolt earlier in the year, not sure.

I'm not convinced this is the source of the creak, I noticed the prawls were worn on the hub and this sounds more like what I'm hearing.

Regardless, I may need a new rear triangle for a 2016 Advanced 1. I hope Giant has stock.

Giant typically will have parts for approx 10 yrs, or they will have a terrific 'plan B' option to the original owner, they used to extend crash replacement program to 2nd hand owners not sure if they still do. One great thing is they can literally make you another one!! There was a case years ago they were out of large DH frames worldwide for warranty inventory, so they made a run of 5 units, one for our customer and the rest for inventory!!

Hey Everyone!
My Reign has developed a slight 'knock' in the suspension at about 30% of travel. I cleaned all the bearings and made sure all the bolts were tight, eliminating the feel possibly coming from the frame. Just wondering if anyone has had this problem on their Rockshox RT3 Monarch and whether replacing the seals would eliminate this. It also makes a slushy/fluid sort of noise when I compress the suspension too.

Here is a picture of where this knock happens and it sinks through the travel for about 5-10% I'd estimate.

Any input would be appreciated
Cheers!

Ah ok thanks! Do you know whether this could be fixed or eliminated? Its kinda off putting when feeling it when going through the travel.

It's a common thing in air shocks when air travel trough the port from one chamber to another. It usually happens before sag point, so it's hardly noticed during the ride.

Hi guys,

What about Öhlins mounting hardware for the rear shocks? Only one close is this:
https://www.ohlins.eu/en/products/mountainbike/stx-22-air-mounting-kit--6372/
It is 8 x 44,85 mm. Guess I need to trim it down to 40 make it fit? Anyone done this or have any other solution?

Thanks, should have figured that one outSmile Why are those bricks there to start with anyway...

This is for the chunky bois. I'm 6'4 (194cm), and fat, 120kg, dunno what that is in crazy American talk.
I ride a 2016 Reign 1, and have had the Monarch maxed with spacers. A cozy 30% sag was achievable, with a cool ~320psi in the shock, naturally, this completely ruined the whole point of an air shock, and the ramp up was just rediculous, maybe i wasn't bottoming out, but that bad boy was not comfortable to ride.

I trolled through forums, bits and pieces led me to a realisation, I need to lose weight....... or get a coil shock (winner)! Enter the (Cane Creek - to help search function) CCDB Inline coil.
Next, I needed to find info about the CCDB and the Reign. Nothing.

So for those other fat bois out there trying to find info:
- 200x57 CCDB Inline coil with a 650lbs x 2.25 spring absolutely suits a 120kg unit perfectly.
- Yes the Reign has a high leverage ratio, and yes that is a bit shit, thats why you should add a bit extra to what the spring rate calculators tell you.
- No I will not argue whether this ratio is progressive or not, I dont care, fact is this shock works!
- Yes I can achieve ~30% sag with a 6 tick preload, I'm only bottoming out on big hits/drops occasionally.
- Yes the CS works, its fantastic, the bike now sticks heaps better during climbs than the Monarch did.
- Yes its a bit heavier, 300grams total for shock + spring, get over it, you're reading this cause you're fat anyway.
- No its not hard to fit, but yes flick that lower mounting bolt the other way to make changing springs easier in future.
- Yes, you do also get bonus points cause now your bike looks cooler.
- Yes, you should still lose some weight.

Seriously has transformed this bike. The back end is just so much more predictable, compared to the over-pressurised air can that came stock. Solid upgrade. Can recommend.

If you want to run coil on '15 frame you really need to revalve it to suit the frame leverage. Even no need to go for firmer spring rate then.

Thanks man! I'll look into that further, but right now it looks like im facing ~$260 for a revalve (Australian prices).... Considering it feels much better than the aircan anyway, i'll probably leave it until I blow it out or need the 100 hour service. Spring has been holding up really well, only a couple bottom outs in last 10 hours riding!

Used old hardware in the end, hard to fit the Öhlins hardware without spacers.
But wow! Just had my Vivid coil serviced but this thing outperforms out of the box. As somebody said earlier in the thread I also believe you need to revalve a coil to function properly with this frame. The STX22 is super smooth and still has plenty of mid stroke support. Way better than the RCT3 Plus I also used.

Anyone know if the brand x 150mm dropper fits a size large 2015 reign. its 480mm long but dont have a seat tube measurement.
cheers

Aye, fitted one last week. You can't fully slam it to the seat post though, it leaves around 10mm from seat post to collar. I'm 5ft 11 and don't have it slammed.
