Hey guys

My first post on here. I just brought a second hand polygon collosus DHX bike and it has arrived with a tiny puncture hole in the bottom of the left fork lower. About 2cm up from the bottom of the fork leg. There is a small amount of yellow fluid that is trapped under the clear stickers over the top of it although I have no idea how old or new this is.

How bad is this? What needs to be done? I'm in New Zealand so please suggest a product that we would have and can get hold of.

How do I attach photos on here to show people?

Thanks!

Hey guys

Here are the images of the puncture on the bottow left lower of my 2013 Fox 40 FIT rc2c forks.

It's just the little puncture and the yellow fluid that has come out under the plastic sticker that I am concerned about. The previous owner said that he was unaware of this.
What the repair scenarios?

Naa i don't have any previous photos sorry. I did read on one post on this forum that someone else had this happen and a few people suggested 'jb weld' but i don't know what that product is.

I've read that fox 40 lowers are like $600 nz so was wondering what other options there are or how serious it was given the size and how low down the puncture is.

Some people recommended welding some aluminium can on to the puncture but I don't know whether this hole is too big, too small or whether it would fix it or not.
I thought these photo close-ups would help show its size and state

Lowers are magnesium, not aluminum. If you tried to weld it you would get nothing but a very hot, bright pile of burning lower.

JB Weld is a 2 part metal epoxy that can be found at most auto parts stores.

The lowers are magnesium alloy that is weldable by a professional. I've had cracked RockShox lowers welded and it worked well.

Yea I would agree with trying some chemical metal like JB weld, if not specialist welding.

I'd remove the sticker and see if any fluid is leaking - then if not recover the hole, alternatively if leaking speak to a specialist in welding or look for second hand fork lowers

It's doable for sure, I should have emphasized more that the DIYer will not have access to equipment to do it, and with what it costs to do, you'd be better off looking for some new lowers.

Put some type of epoxy to patch up the hole and save your money until you can afford a new lower or fork. Jb weld is good.

Thanks guys. I spoke to two mechanics and one thought it was definately leaking while the other lifted off the plastic tape and thought the resin/liquid was just the adhesive from the tape.

I guess I will just have to monitor it and see!

replace oil in the lowers to control leaking. if you haven't serviced it, it may be almost no oil there.
