yes it was a good idea but the reason it hasnt been used is because a pivot on the link proves to be much more practical and requires less maintenance
EDIT: also that positioning would not acuate the shock enough

Without being able to see what is behind the crank, it seems to me that it still wouldn't work at all, since it is fixed at a second point which just makes it a hardtail... with a shock there to look cool..

Put a pivot on the seat stay/chainstay junction and a pivot on the link that mounts to the shock and it works. But it's nothing special.
