Just single speeded the Gambler, found this thread by accident and from there I only had to wait for the cog and kit to arrive.

I have the cheap? SB one, without the clutch an it's still really tight. Non NW Zee chainring haven't dropped the chain yet.

just found this as i'm researching to turn my dh into a single-speed - might try to go the tensioner route, and get another cassette, so i can remove the entire groupset and put it back if i don't like it - subscribed

I'd say give it a go and if you get chain drops upgrade to a single-speed specific sprocket. The advantages of a single speed sprocket are that the teeth are longer, because there is no need to shift, they usually have a wider base that prevents denting the cassette body and getting stuck. And if you get a steel one it will live way longer than an alu one.
