Subbing. I've always wanted to do this and I had no idea it was an actual thing other people do

For you guys who are running the Rohloff tensioner with a narrow-wide ring and no chainguide, how are you gettin' on with chain retention? I've been curious to try it and dump the weight of the chainguide but was always under the impression that even with a narrow-wide you still need the tension of a clutch.

What gear ratios are use guys mainly running ?
Wouldn't mind dropping down to say a 34/32 in the front with a narrow wide.
Any preferred or recommended single sped kits for the rear ?
Cheers

I am running 36x12 with26inch and it works well. Sometimes it`s a bit much so I might try a smaller gear ratio.
You might want to be careful using a chainring that is way smaller than what the bike came stock with as it will change your anti squat values.

This one works really well and is really well made. (oh, and really expensive...)

I am using the Rohloff chain tensioner and it does everything I expect it to do.

Tried it on some rocky downhill track and it worked well. But: the chainring/ chain/ chain tensioner were brand new and tensioned to the max. It was also way too noisy for my liking, that`s why I stopped doing it.

Is everyone running there rohloff tensioner as in the above pic or are ppl running there chain shorter so it has more tension on it ?
Set mine up per there instructions but have seen a few pics of ppl running them tensioned up a fair bit more

on most of the full suspension you can't just shorten the chain as the distance between the cog and the chainring changes when the shock compresses

Yeah I know the bottom jockey wheel isnt suppose to pass the top jockey wheel at full compression, it's just that I have seen a fair few ppl run them a lot tighter.
The above pic looks like it is set up per instructions, but I have seen others with them set up a lot tighter
