I am planning on spending a large part of my summer working on my whip. Since bike parks are not exactly local in my area, I am planning on making a big 'whip' jump in my backyard.
What is the best type of jump to make for learning how to whip (on an all mountain/downhill bike, NOT a DJ) ? I don't have many restrictions as far as space, or speed.
If possible be as specific as you can (angle of lip, length, angle of landing, width.. ect.)

A step-up would be great.... but getting my hands on all that dirt will either be really expensive or a ton of digging. Im probably going to go with a hip.
Something with a steady takeoff and landing is ideal. Don't build a hip if you want your whip to be really good because you'll never learn how to bring it back in which is vital when whipping. A long take off will give you time to prepare yourself to whip. And make sure the gap is easy for you to clear normally. And a wide landing if you mess up.

Any pictures/more specific specs? Sounds like a good idea

I agree with that. The challenge of whips is having your lower body being sideways, but your shoulders still straight ahead, so that you can straighten out.
Hip jumps are better for learning flat tabletops, aka flatties... including one-footed flatties....

But for a moto whip i should make a bike-park style table top? (flatties are sick tricks, but nothing compares to a moto whip)
Due to lack of an excavator... im not going to make a step up because it will take sooo much dirt. Instead im making a big tabletop, and ill make it very wide

Good thinking. Oh and dont make it too long and fast, the speed will want to straighten you out. Give it some air. Ill take pic of a jump at my local place that is perfect for whiping for you.

Tables take up way to much dirt dude , most tables could make at least 2 sets of boubles

I know they take a lot of dirt... lol im only half done and have been working for weeks. But i dont think i can get comfortable trying new stuff on a gap. It'l take a lot of time, but i hope/think it will be worth it.
