Ok so I'm on the hunt for a new all mountain rig, something 5 and 5. Something light say 27 lbs or so. Something nimble to climb with but still slays the DH. I have been a Santa Cruz rider for a lot of years now, currently still on a 2011 blur Ltc. It's a fantastic bike, but like all bikes they get tired and must be replaced.
So I stroll into my LBS and see that the new 5010' are like ALMOST $10,000! I must say that's a ton of cash even if my last bike was about $6500. There is no doubt that it'll be an amazing ride and perform like the best in its class, I already know that.
So what I'm here asking is what other companies make a bike that can compete with the 5010, BUT comes in little less priced. I was thinking a Giant Trance, hell I don't know. That's what I'm asking here ... Any ideas ??

The 5010 C starts at about 3600 USD. (That's about 4800 for you Canadian folks.)

Transition Scout, Intense Spider, and various others from Yeti and Rocky Mountain are others that come to mind.

the comparable 5010 c model to the Giant AdvancedTrance 1 is about $9000 canadian, and the Giant sells for $5000

The Gx/Slx/Pike build on the 5010 is about 6300 CAD. The 5000 you mentioned is in USD, which is to about 6700 Canadian. It does have XT brakes/drivetrain though. Also has an aluminum rear triangle, whereas the 5010 is full carbon.

Part of that is Canadians are getting killed on SC bikes right now, what with the dollar and their lack of a Canadian distributor.

You can get smoking good bang/buck on Norco Sights and Kona Process 134s, check those out, some nice Canadian gear.

Why not look at Devinci bikes?

10k is basically the top end of regular production mountain bikes. You can look at pretty much any other bike and come in way under that.

You probably need to find a different shop if they made it sound like a $10k Santa Cruz was your only option.

Canadian dollar suck right now, that's why. Take a look at Devinci, Top of the line Carbon troy is like 7400$ CAD.

If you want carbon, think Yt or Evil. Both have great build kits for the money you are paying, both supposed to be great bikes. For aluminum, I would buy either a transition Patrol or Commencal Meta V4. Commencal has a ridiculousy amazing spec for the money.

Devinci carbon frame are only 700cad more over their aluminium frame + lifetime warranty. Less costy than YT and you have some kind of service at your LBS.

Lots of great bikes out there that aren't Santa Cruz, mid level Yeti's are $8,000 - $9,000, well built Pivot's are about $8,000, Giant's are great for the price.

okay, so to add a bit more to the story.....I havent rode a bike for over 10 years without a full xt gruppo or better ... so im not going to go back now. Thats why as the post title suggests ALMOST $10k for a new 5010. as of about 10 seconds ago I looked on the Santa cruz site and it says $8749 can$ for a new xt build kit 5010, then you add GST it works out to $9186.45.....which is almost $10k. Thats why im using the 5010 CC XT kit as a baseline.

Thanks for the replies considering the CAN$... really makes sense in todays markets, also good ideas to check out devinci.

But how can you beat the Giant Trance Advanced 1 ($5000) or Devinci Troy SX($5600)? any thoughts on those bikes ? which is better ?why?

Getting back to your original post, you want a good climbing bike that slays the DH, why are you limiting your search to 5" bikes? There are lots of 6" bikes out there that climb every bit as well as a 5" bike and then outperform them by an order of magnitude on the DH. Yeti SB6C, Giant Reign (Not the best climber), Pivot Mach 6, Intense Tracer 275, SC Nomad, Spec Enduro, etc....

As for XT group set, I'd recommend riding the SRAM 1 x 11 (XO1, XX1) group set before you buy, the gear range combined with the added joy of a 1x setup is very nice.
