Hey guys! After some help regarding a front derailleur setup?
Im putting together an old school retro build...and i'm using a 3 x 8 speed setup...i have 8 speed shifters...from what ive been told is that i can use a 9 speed derailleur for the front and rear as long as i am using an 8 speed shifter...is this correct?

It will work but you might get a little chain rub on the front mech at extremes of the cassette

EDIT: Just realised you intend to use a 9speed chain.it should work fine

my old bikes setup using 7 speed shifter - 7 speed sprocket - 9 speed derailleur - 8 speed front derailleur - 7 speed chain
it works perfectly but i can't use 2 gear on the sprocket
but now iam using 10 speed derailleur - 10 speed chain - 10 speed shifter - 9 speed sprocket it works perfect too
just make it sure you set it up correctly the low/high and the b tension on the shifter and derailleur
