i'd probably go for a higher poundage spring as it doesn't sound like you are too fussed about a plush ride
i had a 450 in my van r and now i have a 500 and i can still pedal as fast over bridle path stuff as i could before but i bottom out the shock a lot less.
i would like to try a 550 as i weigh about 85kg but i am loathed to drop £50 on trying something.
Here's my AM Pitch. Nothing stock except the cranks and BB.

The wheelset is a little too much for AM riding, might switch to Easton Havoc DH to save a little weight. Need a Ti spring also to save some fuel on the uphills. This was the 3rd time I build up this Pitch and I'm pretty happy with it. She climbs well and bombs down with stability and control. She's my 1st full suspension bike and after owning 4 bikes she's still my favorite for riding up and down. I got most of the parts from Pinkbike members too, so thank you for helping with my build!
I got a crazy deal on mine here in the buy/sell for $120 with a SDG Bel Air SL (not the same as picture). Hopefully someone hooks you up, it's pretty cool being able to adjust for the terrain without dismounting.
