Depends on what you and the potential buyer agree on.

Stuff I am selling for an unquestionable deal, I will ask that the buyer pays shipping.

If I feel I am coming out on the more winning side, I may offer to pay or split shipping.

I'm wondering how does the buyer pay shipping? On ebay that always seems to just be added in before the order is completed but if I buy a bike here and agree to pay the shipping how is the price configured prior to the purchase?

usually people would go to the post office with the bike all packaged up and see how much it will be then they will just tell the buyer and work something out.
