I have a 2016 giant tallon 2 27.5, would it be possible to put a taperd steering tube on my non taperd head tube? If it is possible how do I do it?

I had a TALON 3, 2016. As far as I know, you cannot. I verified with my LBS where I bought it. I did buy a better fork online through CRC for a great price that was the 1 1/8" steerer. Why the TALON doesn't have a tapered steerer like any other modern bike is beyond me. Thats why i traded it in a few months later and bought a TRANCE 2.

Go to canecreek head set finder and hope for 44mm or larger. Looks like a 44 in the pics to me.

What happens if it's a 44mm?

44mm headtube is large enough to fit 1.5" (38.1mm) tapered steer with the correct lower headset.

according to the CC headset fit finder, the Talon has a 44mm head tube and can therefore run both 1 1/8" straight steerer tube forks, or tapered 1 1/8 to 1.5".

you should have a chat with your shop and ask why they gave you wrong information (perhaps to sell you another bike?).

yes. you will need a new lower assembly that is known as an external cup (or traditional style). it should have the following specs: EC44/40

Would this http://www.jensonusa.com/Fox-34-Float-160-Evolution-275-2015-OE and this http://www.jensonusa.com/Cane-Creek-40-ZS44EC44-Headset-Tapered If I were to buy these two would it work on my talon 2?

yes, all you need is the lower, though. something like this.

also, that fork has too much travel for your Talon. 160mm will change your geometry drastically and make climbing on that bike unpleasant. it may also void your warranty.

this one is a much better choice:

Would 160mm of travel be fine for doing trails? (Were I go biking doesn't have many climbs mostly down hill)

i'm not an engineer, or a mechanic, for that matter. all i know is that bike was not designed for a fork with 160mm of travel. using one will screw up the geometry. if you're dead set on putting that fork on, be my guest.

Well the only reason why I'm considering the 160mm travel over the 120mm is because the 120 is $100 more.

is your bike 9mm qr or 15mm thru axle on the front? the 9mm version is only $409

I will do that. I wasn't aware you could run a tapered fork in a straight steerer. I still don't get why they don't change the head tube on the TALONS.

After a few months of riding it, I decided I was going to upgrade to full squish anyhow as I was riding harder trails that the TALON couldn't quite handle very well. Glad I did. The TRANCE handles them with ease.
