The mtb industry is always evolving, 29ers were a trend then 27.5, plus sizes on tyres etc.
Now I've noticed that a bunch of brands have revealed 170mm trail or enduro bikes such as Specialized New Enduro, Commencal meta sx v3 and now Pivot's Firebird. I've also heard that Trek's new 650b Slash is going for the same 170mm. So the question is:
Is this a new trend? Does 170mm takes the "trail" part of the bike and turns it into a almost freeride one? Aren't trail bikes with 150mm or 160mm travel capable enough? Opinions Please!!

Seems like it is. A welcoming change in my opinion. Going from a 180mm to a 170mm to a 160mm bike within like 4 years, I feel like 170mm is optimal for the terrain I ride most. I feel like bikes are getting a little too long though. My medium frame is 445mm reach and I think 430-435 would be a better fit. Especially with slacker ha.
