So remember back in the day when rampage bikes had 24" wheels with 3.0 tires??? Obviously that trend faded but it raised a question. Could you get a similar but less radical effect by putting 26+ wheels on a 27.5 Downhill bike and how would it ride? I've also seen the fast as f*ck crew in whistler run the 24+ tires in the rear of their 26 inch bikes. I'd like to experiment with wheel sizes but I'm wondering if anyone has tried different sizes and how did it work out?

Well-I'm researching this and can't find much info either.....but I think if it can be done-a lot of people are going to be doing this conversion. I have found a ton of articles on 29 to 27.5+, so I assume 27.5 to 26+ should work. I have a Fuel EX 8 (2015) and apparently it's not worth 1500 dollars now--haha. These are the parts I have found and will most likely try:

Velocity Blunt 35 wheels and Surly Dirt Wizard 26x2.75 tires--SLX hubs off of ebay-just because they're cheaper and 142x12. If it works I'll do a write up-but I won't get around to it til tax time.

I think if you're going to do it on a DH bike though--I'd go with a wider rim like a 45mm or a 50mm

We converted a 2016 Trance SX to 27.5+. New we're going with 26+ once the tire we want becomes available from Maxxis. To rocky here, we need tires with serious sidewalls. We'll be using 40mm hoops and it will be tubeless. 27.5+ worked awesome. 26+ might be the sweet spot.
