Not that hard to understand. Also not sure why you can't grasp that.

And if you actually look at the link I put in the offending post you would see that there's no way that injury was caused by a rotor.

Not agreeing with either of you, the bloke seems like a bit of a pussy, he expects to fall off and be fine? Best he exchange his testicle cookers for some leathers.
But a fundamental difference between MTB and road riding would be the fact MTB rides on dirt and road on the road, buy their very own definition.

Peoples opinions on discs are not a fundamental difference between the sports. For that to be the case every person who rides a road bike would have to be against discs and every person who rides MTB for them. The fact that many road frames come with disc mounts (meaning a lack of discs is not something the sport is based on) proves that opinions on discs are not a fundamental difference.
To say so is like saying running clipless is a fundamental difference or wearing lycra.
Its just not the case.

So while it technically wasn't correct, its gone far too far lol

Fundamental: base, constitutive, essential. His essential quality is he's a puss, as evidenced by saying a rotor is lethal because he thinks it caused 2 superficial cuts on his foot.
Being a pussy is in no way a fundamental quality of road biking, neither is being tough a fundamental quality of mountain biking.

And, reality check, road bikers wanting to avoid getting sliced up isn't being a pussy... these guys are doing 100kph plus on concrete with nothing but a millimeter of spandex to cushion a fall shoulder to shoulder with 180 riders willingly enduring pain for four to eight hours without a break. That pussy road rider is tougher than 90% of mountain bikers, not being into getting cut doesn't change that.

This is actually old news and not the first false alarm... also I've not ever said it was caused by the rotor, in fact I said it wasn't. That was never in dispute.

Again, the comment was made in jest, it was clearly lost on you. Ready to move on?

Let's break this down...

Mountain bikers almost universally wear pads and often full face helmets... and the hardest things you'll encounter are rocks.

Road bikers never wear pads, ever, and wear the lightest helmets legally allowed... and the softest thing they'll encounter is essentially rock... while traveling at average speeds well above that of mountain bikes.

Don't throw out your shoulders patting yourselves on the back for being so hardcore.

Goalies wear neck guards in hockey so skates don't injure them. It's not so much an issue in figure skating or for the general players as they don't meet the ground as often.

MTB riders are rarely shoulder to shoulder riding tightly, and rarely bump into each other as much as riders do in a peloton. The issues MTB riders face and that which road riders face are certainly different. Is it a fundamental difference? Of course. Are you an idiot to dismiss someone as a bit whiny when their shoe got cut through from a fairly short contact? Undoubtedly. Was the comment seriously? Probably not.

I'm sure hockey also thought throat guards were for pussies until someone bled out on live TV. Shrug.

They use them in the US for road racing, and its been fine. in CX and enduro you can often find yourself up the arse of someone and crash.

I love disk brakes and would never have any different, but in a crash like this.. would you want disk rotors added to the mix?
