Hey all,

I'm working on building up a Transition Patrol right now and plan on running the eagle. I was curious what size chainring everyone has been running? I know I want to run more than just the 32T but can't decide between a 34T and 36T. Any help is appreciated, cheers!

I mean, you're talking about a 6% difference in gearing ratio, which is pretty small potatoes, you'll be fine either way. I'd go the safe route and go 34.

I'm not fortunate enough to have an Eagle drivetrain but when I did my first 1x conversion I created a simple table in a spreadsheet that showed gear ratios for various chainring and cog combinations.

You can use this site to compare gearing combos. I've done it when trying to figure out several options in the past.

I put this together a while ago when I got Eagle to compare gear ratios. The results were surprising you gain so much low end on eagle, I went from a 11spd shimano setup with 32 tooth to Eagle with 36 tooth and gained ratio on both ends.

Eagle Chainring Gear Ratio
30: 3.00-0.600
32: 3.20-0.640
34: 3.40-0.680
36: 3.60-0.720

Shimano 11 Spd XT 11-42 Chainring Gear Ratio
30: 2.727-0.714
32: 2.909-0.762
34: 3.091-0.810
36: 3.273-0.857

So my 32t chainring on Shimano had a gear ratio of 2.909-0.762, and Eagle with 36t has a gear ratio of 3.60-0.720, so a 24% gain on the high end and a 5% gain on the low end.
