I just thought I would post this little project on here for anyone who was interested. I have ridden an Inspired Fourplay for a few years and recently have been thinking its time to switch things up and go back to 26 inch wheels.

I have owned a bunch of different "trials" bikes from a converted GT Tempest to an Ellsworth specialist then in 2006 I bought this cool new dirt jump frame known as the BlkMrkt Mob.

The Mob in 2006 not looking much like a trials bike.

About a year or so after this picture was taken I took a break from trials and biking in general.

Jump to 2011 when I decided to get back into riding and do some trials. I still had the Mob frame so I built it up with the parts I had lying around and the result is what you see here..
2011
That time I started trials riding again 2011

yikes not pretty...

I rode the mob for a season or so and then I got my first real trials bike, an Inspired Fourplay. the mob got taken apart and the frame sat in the basement until just recently when I decided to give it a new life and take another shot at making it into a trials bike. the following has been the project so far..

First thing to do is remove the V Brake bosses, I accomplished this with a hacksaw and a file, I left the C on the left seat stay for obvious reasons.

Shaving the v brake mounts...times have changed going to leave the c on the left hand side for obvious reasons. Next step paint removal from frame and forks

Brake bosses removed, time to strip the paint, off to the metal stripper..

Ready for paint removal

Paint removed
The Mob back from the metal stripper, I really like the look of the raw steel so I decided to leave the bare steel and let it rust.

getting closer waiting on brakes and a new chain

I used some new parts sprinkled in with some old to build the bike up. I'm going to replace the chain, and add some avid bb7 brakes.

Currently using a 70x35 stem with Inspired arcade bars

now just waiting for brakes and the chain to show up in the mail

Brakes and new chain are installed, I just need to play around with the gearing and bed in the brakes...maybe some stiffer brake cable housing. I will take some proper pictures out in the sunlight and post them soon.
Finished

cool! how do she ride?

It's still snowy outside so I've only ridden it in the garage, it feels a lot taller than the fourplay which is more comfortable for me. I still haven't got the gearing right. I want to match the feel of the four play's gearing so it will take a bit to get that right. Currently I have a 25t in the front and a 18t in the back which is way too hard of a gear.

Here's the final product, I played around with the gearing and ended up with a 25/20 gear ratio, played with the bar angle and the bike is feeling quite comfortable now.

Pretty sweet, ive always wanted a street trials bike..I've often thought of converting my Ordnance Street frame over... a fork and some bars/stem would probably do..

What fork are you using ? (did I skip over that, sorry) I had a ridged fork but it was shock compensating so I had that 100mm gap and I hated it..

The forks are suspension corrected so they do sit taller. I don't think it's such a bad thing though, it allows me to run a shorter stem and still get a decent bar height. They are identiti rebate forks I managed to find a pair second hand last winter.
I don't think dirt jump bikes are perfect for trials but the mob has a decently high bottom bracket so it should be alright. The ordnance should be a similar situation.

Right right, the Ordnance has rather high BB and steeper HT.. I had a ridged fork for a little while and got rid of it cause I hated it (wasn't trails trustable anyway).. Thats the hard part.. but I also have a hard time slowing down.. Ive never really committed to trials style gearing, so im always movin..

My BMX stem and 5.5" bars make me wonder if I'm in the proper height/reach/leverage territory

Incase anyone cares, this is the finished mob trials bike. Hasn't started rusting yet, changed out the wheels to spank tweet rims with a pro 2 rear hub and went with a deity seat and grips.
Raw steel blk mrkt mob set up for trials...let the rust begin.

I love it! I am a sucker for orange anodizing.

Which rotors is that ?

Posted: Apr 17, 2018 at 13:30 Quote
The rotors are Hope 203mm saw tooth, they seem to work alright with the bb7 brakes except the brake pads have tabs that hang down off the lower part of the pad that catch on the rivet where the steel rotor attaches to the aluminum spider, I snipped the tabs off with a pair of side cutters and it was all good after that
