I am looking for some advice on mountain bikes...we are rookies (Vancouver, BC area) and looking for a bike for my 10 year old son and myself to ride some beginner trails. I found a Kona Shred and Norco Bigfoot (both 2006, but haven't been used since 2009). It was a father/son who rode together, but school/work got in the way and they are selling their bikes. They are asking $300 per bike. We have been told that sounds high based on the year of the bikes. Any thoughts or suggestions? We are rookie riders and it would be more for my son who is 10...don't have thousands of dollars to put into beginner bikes for the odd trail ride. Any thoughts or suggestions?

$100-150 per bike might be reasonable depending on the condition they are in. Buying used entry level bikes is hard because people seem to think their bikes are made of gold or something.

If they weren't ridden for almost 8 years, I'd have some serious reliability issues. You can get a better deal for separate bikes, even with $300 a piece.
