Hi everyone,

I picked up a great deal on this bike since I've started wanting to commute around the city/highways - hoping to finally enjoy a better bike than the past ones I've gotten from Canadian Tire.

2005 Devinci Silverstone 101
http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/BikeSpecs.aspx?year=2005&brand=Devinci&model=Silverstone+105

Currently I have looked into buying the following:
1 Pair of Shimano PD T400 SPD Pedals http://www.jensonusa.com/Shimano-PD-T400-SPD-Pedals

2 Pairs of Schwalbe One Folding Tire (or should I get Conti Gatorskin?) (bad experiences with tires - gotten four flat tires in the past with crappy bikes on normal roads) http://www.jensonusa.com/Schwalbe-One-Folding-Tire

Which 9 speed chain should I get?

Also, would cassettes be necessary to change as well? KMC X9.99 , KMC X9 SL, SRAM PC-971 with Powerlink or SRAM PG-980 are the ones listed on JensonUSA.

Thanks in advance everyone helping this newbie! Big Grin

Cheers!

If your flats were due to punctures, then yes I would go with the Gatorskin ... but if they were just pinch flats, or from chafing inside the rim/rim tape, the Schwalbe would be fine ... the gator skins are significantly heavier (+120g/tire) .but Worth the weight if you are getting puncture flats.

as for chains .. whatever is cheap. you won't notice a difference. Just consider that if the rest of your drivetrain is worn (cassette and sprocket ) they may not mesh up with your chain properly, and running a new chain on an old drivetrain will prematurely wear the new chain.

The pedals look like a great deal for a commuting type ride.

as for Must haves ... I would say think about fresh bar tape... its relatively cheap.. it will improve your feel on the bike. something a bit on thick side may be nice, particularly if you haven't had your mitts on an a handlebar in a while.
