Bummer. That’s your seat tube, yeah? Seems like an odd place for the frame to fail, since it should see lower loads than other areas. Curious if Giant can do anything to help…

I took it to a Gaint retailer and they ran a warranty claim. I was lucky it landed under it and they sent out a whole new frame and labor included to swap parts. It isn't the exact same frame but a neon red Gaint reign 1. Honestly have no idea what this frame actually is, not able to find it anywhere online.

^Props to Giant for honoring that. You’re on a 27.5 Reign? Maybe they have limited frames, since the 27.5 is a discontinued model.
I approached the Giant tent at Crankworx in Whistler and the product manager was really keen on my Reign. Z1 coil fork, DHX2, CC link, XT group, Rimpact inserts, Flow Mk4 / i9 wheelset, and 2.6 tires. Giant mentioned they have something like my bike (Enduro/Freeride/27.5) in the pipeline (!!). Although, they were shocked that I pedal the bike regularly, so not sure what that implies about what’s coming out soon…

Semi-related, I have an extra Cascade Components link (raw finish) that is collecting dust. Anyone here interested in buying it? I’ll probably throw it on the classifieds soon.

I’ve been running the cascade link for while now, it’s certified badass.

Sadly i’m selling it to get a kona. It’s been a good 5 years. might even be getting another warranty frame from giant after breaking my lower rocker link again.

I recently noticed that the D-link on my frame cracked. Seems like models as early as the 2010 have this issue. Drive side failure, right under where the inevitable cable rub happens. Reached out to Giant through their site, but no reply. Luckily it's a $50 part I can order myself.

All:
Thoughts on the new generation of Reign? (https://www.pinkbike.com/news/first-look-the-2023-giant-reign-gets-slacker-more-travel-and-in-frame-storage.html)

Longer, slacker, but hey, they added a bit more stack to the geo? Interesting that the SX only has 170mm rear travel, but paired with a dual crown in the front.

Referring to my cracked Reign and warranty claim here is the frame I was sent out. Says on the frame sticker it is a Giant 1. I have searched giants bike archive and dug through the internet and all I have found are a few obscure articles reviewing this bike that do not mention a special edition or anything. Very odd it's not even on their website's archive. Wonder if anyone knows anything about this frame.

The warranty Frame that I was sent out in place of my 2018 reign 2 blue cracked the seat tube to the bottom bracket.

Interesting. Did it come with any other hardware (headset, shock, frame port plugs, etc)? The 2018 Reign 2 is blue/black with those same graphics, so perhaps yours is not an SX (orange), not a carbon, but rather the higher spec over the 2? Never seen red, though. Have seen dark grey and orange.

My broken d-link was given a “crash replacement” discount of 20%, not covering labor or anything beyond that, so I ordered it myself.

No, every part was taken off my old frame and put on this one. The only thing new was the frame. Right, never seen this color either, thinking maybe it was a test frame or something not sure. I got lucky and Giant covered the frame, shipping, and labor. I didn't have to pay a dime for this, pretty stoked about it. Feels like a new bike, they put a new linkage in half of them, same bottom bracket though.

That colorway was in sold in Canada and Europe I believe. Or possibly Australia, just not the US. I got the same frame as a warranty when I cracked mine as well. It is the same as all 275 Reign Alu frames of this generation, even the SX. in previous years the SX was a little bit different geo, but this generation was the same.

Bit late to the party but here's the red 2018 Giant Reign 1. Sold in Australia, maybe other markets as well.

Hello All,

As you can see i have pretty much upgraded everything on the bike but i am at the point that i want to go through the frame bearings and fittings and check them i.e. take apart, check and reinstall if ok. I cannot find a bearings spec list or a diagram of how the fittings go back together so i dont make a mess of something. If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks - Rob, UK

^ Rob, best bet is to tear it down and see what bearings are where first. I can report on the 4 in the rocker link and pair on the lower shock (frame mounted) bearings later.

Also, folks, Cascade Components is doing a clearance sale (50% off!) for the Giant Reign aftermarket rocker link. Once they’re all sold, that’s the end of them, so get your hands on ‘em while you can.

2018 Giant Reign SX

I recently installed the Cascade Components link onto my 2018 Reign sx and have gotten a few easy rides on it so far. Its a big improvement for sure tup

I remember seeing this Cascade link a while ago but was it way too much money for uncertainty. Do you think it will fit with my Rockshox superdeluxe coil? My reign is the neaon red one a few picutres above. Cheers!
