Looking at hardtail bikes that will feel like my DJ but handle trail.
Debating between Hardtail DH/Freeride bikes and modern Hardtail AM bikes.
I want to hit the pump jumps and pop off neighborhood curbs but also get rowdy on the trail.
Any advice?

meh not really? the cheap ones are super heavy and dont do much suspension wise. but its not like you need buttery small bump compliance.

Found an older DMR Trailstar that is a perfect fit for my needs. Short seat tube but longer top tube. Seat tube angle lets me drop the seat and the bike shrinks for DJ and raise it and fits nicely on the trail.
Used a talas fork for quick adjustment between the two disciplines mentioned w 130mm for trail rides.
