Maxxis Aggressor rear or Purgatory rear with Butcher grid front?

I'm currently running a Specialized Butcher (2015) front with a Purgatory (2017) control rear, but would like a little more grip on rock and roots. Am I going to find it with the Aggressor for a rear tire? I don't want to feel like I'm biking in sand though, so rolling resistance is an issue. I bike the Shore mostly. thoughts?
