Broken session 8 evo link

Hey guys I was out riding today at windham and on my second run I noticed it sounded like I bottomed on something pretty tame and I stopped and looked down and saw one side of the evo link snapped in half. Wondering if anyone could see why this happened or is it just a defect in the link

I don't think there's going to be a way for us to determine what caused it other than it being a defect. If you are able to see any signs of previous impact, or knew of a bad crash you had that may have caused a smaller crack, then that would likely be the cause. Otherwise, it looks like a defect to me. I'd definitely be bringing that to my trek dealer to see what they can do with for warranty.
